An Open Letter To 2016

Our final goodbyes

Dear 2016,

You have ultimately ruined our lives. You have taken away artists that we loved. You have started wars and caused too much death to even count. We are a country divided with an idiot as president and an idiot that lost to the idiot that is president. We even fell prey to being super simplistic. I mean we were entertained by the fact that if a bottle is flipped just right it will stand on the bottom it is meant to stand on.

But 2016 no matter what you have left us with we will try to fix it. In 2017 for at last a month we will try to better it and leave all the bad of you behind. We will try to fight off ISIS and turn all the hate into love. We will try to lose the holiday fat you recently brought us. We will try to get over the deaths of the newly fallen that you took with you and we will try to move on from our simplistic musical entertainment.

2016 may have not been all bad. It did bring us laughs and good movies. It brought us a chance to fight for the things we believe in. It even gave us a chance to show our kids what love and life and loss are about without them having to grow up wondering. We even had little kids thankful for avocados sweeping the internet all year. We had some really new artists that truly care about people come into the woodworks. Also if you are a Kari Jobe fan like me she even announced her new tour.

So as the New Year rings in remember not all of 2016 is bad, but it is a time to change oneself and maybe leave the 100 layers of horror beauty trend behind. Maybe while we are at it we can leave the little boys and girls trying to look sexy on apps behind too. Let’s throw away the idea that 2017 is going to be just as bad as 2016 and truly try to better ourselves. In the end we the people can make this year better for ourselves and everyone involved. All we need to do is learn to love, read, and be less easily entertained. Sadly in the end, like any new partner we will probably turn 2017 into our ex 2016. Oh well, cheers to another new year!

Sincerely, a hopeful citizen of 2017

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
