Realistic New Year's Resolutions

Things you might actually accomplish this year

Realistic New Year's Resolutions

The week between Christmas and New Year's gives you just enough free time to realize that you once again dropped the ball on achieving that "New Year's Resolution" you made for 2016. One week is not enough time to complete this year's resolution, but it does give you the chance to make some simple and practical resolutions. Here is a list of fun and realistic things you can start on tonight - right after the ball drops even!

Finish that Netflix series

Students have it easy with winter break, so it may be harder for some, but finally finishing that series you've been watching (or not watching) on Netflix will feel great once you've done it.

Catch up with someone you haven't seen in a while

I'm sure there are plenty of friends you haven't talked to for a while. Go get some coffee, catch up on each other's lives and just hang out! Take advantage of the free time and schedules the holidays may bring you.

Order something new on the menu

Sure, your usual is great and good and safe, but you've gotta do something crazy ever you once in a while. Pick something different, like that item you always want to get but never do! So what if you risk the chance of wasted money, but what if you end up loving it? Take a chance, be crazy.

See a new movie

Sure, you may watch movies all the time on Netflix, but when is the last time you went to the theater to watch a new movie? There are plenty of great movies out now, and even more highly anticipated flicks coming out this year- so start the popcorn and try to get a good seat!

Find a form of exercise you actually like

Now don't freak out. You aren't signing your soul away with this resolution, but finding a "fun" way to get healthy. Instead of joining a gym or making crazy exercise plans, you can play around with different ways to exercise, find one you actually enjoy, and get on your way to a healthier lifestyle- no strings attached.

Have a dinner party with crazy food

And make it yourself! This is just a fun way to get together with friends, experiment your culinary experience and make some freaking awesome food. Make a game night of it, a movie night, whatever! Just don't buy the food, it sucks the fun out of it.

Sleep in or wake up early at least once

I know what you're thinking, absolutely not, but think about it. You don't have to become a morning person overnight, or ruin a whole day by sleeping. Consider it a fun experiment- if you wake up early and enjoy having more free time it's a success, and if you sleep in you may just love having a lazy day every once in a while! You don't have to become a new person, just be crazy and change your schedule up every once in a while. You might actually love it!

Eat whatever you want

Forget the crazy diets or goals, just eat whatever you want. Maybe you're feeling loads of pizza one day, or a really nice salad the next- it doesn't matter. As long as you are full and happy you can do whatever you want to.

Be spontaneous!

Do something you normally wouldn't, or never thought you would do! Be crazy, be fun, be different. Spend this year making the most of every moment and never taking time for granted.

Happy New Year!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
