I wasn't really a fan of either teams in the Super Bowl this year, and while Beyonce and Lady Gaga were enough of a reason to tune in, Super Bowl commercials are always the highlight of my year. Perhaps my marketing education has made me a nerd in this regard, but at my Super Bowl party, rather than talking during commercials and focusing during the game, I enforced the opposite. While eating (lots of eating) and chatting were allowed during game time, I forced everyone to be quiet during commercial breaks. I mean, hey, these seconds are worth millions of dollars and deserve appreciation! Below is my review and highlights of the best 2016 Super Bowl 50 commercials (in no particular order -- that's too hard to decide).
T-mobile -- Steve Harvey makes fun of himself
I find this commercial pretty hilarious. First off, completely mimicking Verizon's moving ball commercial, T-mobile directly calls out Verizon for their information about coverage. Then to top it off, Steve Harvey is there referencing his infamous Miss America crowning mistake and says, "I'm not taking responsibility for this one!" It's just great.
Doritos -- Disturbingly funny
I don't know why but its pretty hysterical for Doritos to advertise saying that their snack can induce labor of an unborn child.
Doritos -- Win part 2
Got to love America's best friend! Dog commercials always tend to go over pretty well, and this adorable "sneaking in" premise is too cute to not make the top.
Hyundai -- Kevin Hart as world's creepiest dad
At a whopping 5'4, comedian Kevin Hart never plays intimidating roles. However, Hyundai casted him as an overprotecting father, something hilarious in itself. This commercial is very relatable for many parents and still fits it well with features of the car.
Bud Light -- My 2016 presidential vote
Maybe it's just because these are two of my favorite comedians, but I think this was my favorite commercial to watch. Very timely with the election coming up, the use of political jargon and America's love for beer make this commercial genius.
Skittles -- Solid throwback
Every year there always has to be a classic rock commercial. Still killing the rocker look, I think Steven Tyler did a great job. Who doesn't like a good Aerosmith throwback?!
NFL -- Children singing about being conceived
I think that's what was happening here? The NFL got a lot of internet attention for this seemingly inappropriate topic, but I still thought it was pretty funny!
Mountain Dew -- I have no idea what this is
I don't have a good explanation for why this makes my top list but for some reason it made me laugh! It was definitely out there, but memorable to say the least.
T-mobile -- Drake is bae
Playing off of Drake's popular music video and song, "Hotline Bling," I think T-mobile did a pretty good job using this song about phones, and twisting it to show how other carriers "ruin everything." This was humorous and showed that T-mobile is pretty cool despite the nerdy dance break at the end.
Heinz -- Adorable wienies
Heinz has gotten a lot of praise for the commercial and I can tell why! The stampede of wieners dressed as wieners was adorable. And when you didn't think it could get any cuter, the puppies attack the condiments and lick them all over their faces! Also, the precious toddler dressed as the little ketchup packet really put me over the edge! Well done.
While a lot of people said the commercials were slacking this year, I have to disagree! This collection is super creative and all make me laugh every single time.
