2016: Ready Or Not, Here I Come

Another year and finally, another me.

2015. It went as fast as it came. It's the time of year when all the articles about the year start to be published, all the major events, all the trials and tribulations, all the good, bad, and ugly. I'd like to think and say that this article will be different, just like I will be.

The saying goes "new year, new me," and yes, it's old, cliche and annoying, but honestly, it's the only thing that can apply to me at this time in my life. I have been on the bandwagon for years and years, making New Year's resolutions that I know I won't keep, and saying all these things, knowing well enough that I will never be that person, but this time, it's totally different.

I know that in comparison to what some of my friends, and a whole bunch of people that I never have or ever will meet have gone through this year, mine is minimal at best, but it was a lot for me. I went through some of the most major changes that I could ever go through, and thankfully, I came out on top, for the most part that is. I lost a lot of myself this year, but I also gained a lot more than I could've ever expected.

2016 is going to be a better year for the simple reason that I need it to be. I need this upcoming year to be everything 2015 was not, and that's a very high expectation. I need 2016 to bring me the calm and relaxation that didn't seem to be in the cards for me for 2015. I need 2016 to bring me people that I can truly count on, and I need 2015 to take everyone negative away with it.

In 2016 I will to learn to stop wearing my heart on my sleeve, and I will learn how to love and trust again. I will put myself first for the first time in my life, and I will go after what I want. I will depend on myself, and I will try to be more positive.

2015 was a hard year. I loved, and I lost, both romantically and otherwise. People walked in and out of my life. My world was flipped every which way possible, and for the majority of the year, I felt like I was drowning. 2016 is going to be a big year for me, for those of you who stick around to watch, and those who I will encounter, I'm excited to see what this year is going to bring me.

2016, I'm running head on into you; hope you're ready, because I sure as hell am.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
