New Year, New You

What will change in 2016?

New Year, New You

As January is around the corner, so is the new year of 2016. A new year will bring new adventures, memories, hardships, and accomplishments for everyone. Maybe some people will leave your life as others enter it. What you make of a new year is up to you. Most people focus on New Year resolutions, which are normally based off of what people would like to see for themselves that they haven’t been able to do in the past years. These New Year resolutions can be anything from losing weight, finding a new job, getting a certain grade in a class, making new friends, joining a club, making time for themselves, learning something new, etc. All of these resolutions are possible if that person really wants to accomplish it. Nothing is impossible! So what will 2016 bring for you?

New adventures.

Will you decide to travel to new places in the New Year or will you find those hidden places right in your own town? Either way you are making time with people you enjoy to explore new places with. New adventures don’t have to be thought of as only traveling or exploring. It can be things such as getting a new job, getting married, having a child, meeting someone new, or joining an organization that interests you. A new adventure is something that will give you a spin on life and make you think twice about certain things. It’s an experience that will impact your life and change your new year.

Memories.

The people you are around, the things you do, and the places you go make memories of a lifetime. There are things that you will never forget and people that will change your life for the better or worse, either way they are impacting you. I found a saying that is, “People may change, but memories will always stay with you.” This is very true because at one point and time where you were and who you were with was exactly what you wanted. You have to keep these memories with you and look back on them to remember everything you have done in your life. It is always fun to make new memories with new and old friend and family.

Hardships.

Not everything that happens in a year is all happy times. People go through difficult times and these moments can either define you or you can overcome them. They can be blessings in disguise that lead you to the person you want to be and the life you want to live. Hardships can be anything from losing a job, a death in the family or a close friend, stress, saying goodbye to a friend, moving to a new city, and many more things. They don’t have to be huge changes in life; they can be the littlest ones too. No matter how big or small of an event that you may go through, you can overcome them for the best rather than letting them define you and change your situation for the worst. Just remember that each New Year brings new surprises that can make you a better person in the end.

Accomplishments.

Who doesn’t love bragging about what they have done here and there? It is a good thing to share with others about the things you have done and are doing to allow people into your life. They can be there to support you and cheer you up when things don’t go as planned. It’s nice to have people to celebrate with when you do something great and it is also a great feeling to have someone comfort you when you may fail at something too. For 2016 make a list of things you would like to accomplish and how you will try to do so.

Happy 2016. Make this the best year, yet!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
