If you are a college aged millennial there is a good chance that you, like me, are voting in your first presidential election. Congratulations on finally being eligible to exercise your right to vote especially during such an intriguing presidential election year. With that, I would also like to extend my sincerest apologies on behalf of The United States of America to the United States of America, especially to all millennials who are new to the whole voting thing. So regardless of who you fully support or kind of sort of support we can all admit that each candidate brings something different to the table.
Let's start with the man who is no longer in the running but had such great influence over the younger demographic.
Bernie Sanders
I respect Bernie Sanders for picking a side and sticking to it for the most part. I don't believe he panders as much as the other democratic candidate and now nominee, but that is just pure opinion. I don't have many great things to say about Bernie and I am extremely open about not supporting him in any capacity at any point and time throughout his campaign, however Sanders reminds me that people actually exist. Let me elaborate on what I mean by that. What I mean is that each person is an actual human being and though not everyone struggles some certainly and unfortunately do. That tends to be an element of society I neglect to remember. I suppose in some strange way he humbles me, but that doesn't exactly qualify you for president in my book. Senator, you had a fair run, but did not clinch the nomination (sorry not sorry).
The presumptive Democratic nominee:
Hillary R. Clinton
Hillary Clinton was just endorsed by Barack Obama. We would assume everyone would jump on her bandwagon with an endorsement from the POTUS, but I'm honestly not too sure if that is how it will play out. Hillary Clinton is the first female presumptive nominee for president and that is definitely epic! It is definitely exciting to be a part in making history, however that should not automatically give a person the win. Her being a woman is totally awesome but not enough in my book to qualify her for the highest office in the land. Hillary is a former first lady and senator, as well as the current Secretary of State. Hillary has been under some fire in regards to some actions that have led people to question her loyalty and honesty. Nevertheless she still has more political experience than her counterpart, the presumptive Republican nominee.
As for the presumptive Republican nominee:
Donald J. Trump
Donald Trump has been under some major fire this election. As a non-establishment candidate who is the epitome of not politically correct some of his statements have certainly put him in the hot seat. Regardless of what one may think of some of Trump's statements I know I can personally say for certain that he has opened my eyes to some things good and bad. He has made me see the reality of issues our country faces like national security and our economic stability (or instability), whether or not he can fix them is a whole other article. He is a successful businessman and not an establishment kind of guy but in my book that is not enough to qualify you for president of the United States.
Bottom line being, I'm sorry if this is your first presidential election you are voting in. Regardless of our mainstream candidates, keep in mind that there are other third party candidates or the option to write someone in. Still execute your right to vote! A little over a hundred years ago as a woman I would not have had the right to vote. I exercise my right to vote always and you should too! Happy voting and may the best man (or woman) win!
When in doubt ladies and gentlemen #Duncan4POTUS
