2015 is going be a great year for movies, and I'll tell you why in two words: Star Wars. Nah, I'm just kidding, there are quite a few other fantastic movies coming out this year, and unfortunately Star Wars won't be coming out until December 18 , so I guess we have to be satisfied with these other films until then.
Here's a rundown of some movies we can look forward to, who's starring in them and why I think they're going to be great.
Note: All these reviews are based solely on my own opinion formed by watching trailers and previews, but I like to think I'm pretty rad at predicting how a movie will turn out before I actually see it.
The Age of Adaline
Opens April 24
Starring Blake Lively, Harrison Ford, and Michiel Huisman
Directed by Lee Toland Krieger
My Opinion: Looks like it'll be good. It's not exactly a flick I'd go see with the boys, but I'd take a date out to see it after Olive Garden or something. Looks like Blake Lively (BAE) plays a woman who, after a car accident and getting struck by lightening, becomes immortal. She doesn't have a BAE cause while they grow old, she stays the same age, but she somehow has a daughter. She meets Khal Drogo (Michiel Huisman, doesn't actually play Khal Drogo, but he does play Daario Naharis ), who's the son of some dude (Harrison Ford) she dated in the 50's or something. Kind of a low blow there Lively, but I can't really judge, I don't know the struggles of an being immortal.
Rating: I'd give it a 3.7 out of 5 Olive Garden breadsticks.
Avengers: Age of Ultron
Opens May 1
Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olson, Samuel L. Jackson, and a few others I can't remember
Directed by Joss Whedon
My Opinion: I'm pretty stoked for this movie. It's got eye candy for dudes and ladies, tons of action, comedy and a great story. Looks like Ultron takes place after The Avengers, Iron Man 3, Captain America 2 and Thor 2 (It also looks like Hulk, Hawkeye and Black Widow aren't cool enough for their own movies yet, or sequels, in Hulk's case). Seems like Tony Stark (Iron Man) built a sentient robot that's determined to eradicate humanity because they're tangled in strings or something. Looks like there will be in-fighting, but I'm sure the Avengers will rally together and defeat Ultron.
Rating: I'd give it a 4.75 out of 5 Iron Man suits
Mad Max: Fury Road
Opens May 15
Starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron
Directed by George Miller
My Opinion: George Miller's gotta weird track record. He directed the original Mad Max along with the sequels (if you haven't seen a Mad Max movie before, just know this; they are incredibly violent), and then went on to direct and produce Babe (yeah, the movie about a pig on a farm) and Happy Feet. Like what? Two completely opposite ends of the spectrum there. However, his penchant for directing kid movies does not phase him when a movie needs to be gritty and violent. Going by the fillm's trailer, it looks like Max (Tom Hardy) is a drifter in post-apocalyptic Australia (the original Mad Max was played by Mel Gibson) looking for a righteous cause to fight for. He meets Charlize Theron's character, who seems to be transporting Victoria's Secret models across the outback. I don't know why, but it also looks like she is protecting them from some psychopaths with a flame-throwing guitar and monster trucks. Visually, the movie looks incredible. The red sand constrasts nicely with the blue sky, explosions and fire dance across the screen in a choreographed display of violence (what did I just write?). Anyway, it looks like a lovely film, be sure to check it out.
Rating: Max gets 4.5 explosions out of 5
Stay tuned for part II, where I will cover Pitch Perfect 2, Tomorrowland, and San Andreas.
