The day long tailgates that consume Saturdays have been over, there are no longer artists singing in Kleman Plaza on Friday nights, and the deafening screams coming from Doak Campbell Stadium have faded. Sadly we are reminded that football season is over, and students at Florida State are infamous for complaining that there is nothing to do on the weekends in Tallahassee during the spring semester.
If you don't have plans the weekend of April 11, 2015, consider gathering a group of friends and heading to Auburn, Alabama for Alpha Psi's annual Auburn Rodeo. The drive is only four hours to their beautiful campus, and though we have become football rivalries, everyone can agree that their nightlife and yearly rodeo is a blast. A day of sun, beer, and friends makes for one to remember, and will keep you coming back for more. This will be my third year attending, and it has yet to disappoint.
The Alpha Psi Rodeo is a daylong event, a marathon, not a sprint, and some people learn this the hard way. The tailgating fields open at 9:00 a.m., and people sit in line for hours before that. This is the first year that each ticket serves as its own parking pass, meaning the shuttle buses will no longer be running. Be ready to rise, shine, and rally because it is going to be an early morning.
The rodeo competition runs all day long, and because civilians and professionals both have the ability to sign up it is quite entertaining. If the rodeo is not for you the tailgating will be. A tip for everyone spending the day there: Bring a cooler of food and water, and don't forget the sunscreen: It is a long and hot day. Though this year they are providing food for sale, it does not hurt to stock a cooler of sandwiches and water bottles. No one wants to be that kid past out under the truck at 10:00 a.m. There are thousands of people, and hundreds of tailgates to create an exciting atmosphere you don't want to miss out.
The day is finished with a headlining country artist, making the ticket worth the price itself. Performers in the past three years have included, Eric Church, Brantley Gilbert, and Allen Jackson. This year Alpha Psi Rodeo is excited to introduce that the headliner is going to be Brad Paisley. Standing room only, and all general admission, this is your chance to see one of America's most popular country music singers in action.
Auburn Rodeo is fast approaching. The event commonly sells out so buy your tickets now, and finally have something to look forward to this spring semester.
