To the Class of 2020,
Let me first start by saying congratulations to you! If you were anything like me, you thought you'd never make it out of being a kid and especially not a teenager alive. And yet, here you are, ready to embark on this brand new phase of your life. While the task at hand may seem daunting, never fear, for I have a few tips for you to help you out in making your first year of college the most memorable.
1. Always take advantage of the word "free;" you'll thank me and your bank account later.
2. Go to office hours. Your professors wouldn't offer them if they wanted you to fail, but it's up to you to take advantage of them.
3. Explore your passions.
4. Don't be afraid to take a risk and try something new.
5. You can say "no" to things that you don't want.
6. Allow yourself to take time for you.
7. Find an organizational system that works for you, and stick with it.
8. Set attainable goals for yourself.
9. Leave the past in the past, but keep those fond memories in your heart.
10. Do your very best, not someone else's very best.
11. It's okay to change, whether that's your hair color, friend group, or major.
12. Embrace the little moments as much as the big ones.
13. Take LOTS of pictures!
14. Appreciate your parents when they come to see you or you go to see them.
15. Forgive yourself if you mess up.
16. Find a reason every day to smile.
17. Confidence is attractive and addictive.
18. Take responsibility with your newfound freedom.
19. Never forget those who always have and always will support you.
20. Be yourself and only yourself.
With these 20 tips, you're sure to have an unforgettable first year of college. I have faith in you, and I can't wait to see the places you will go!
Sincerely,
A Member of the Class of 2019
