20 Thoughts You Have On The First Day Of Class
Onward State

I just want to put out a little disclaimer at the beginning of this just to say all thoughts and opinions are my own, and yes these events really did happen.

With syllabus week beginning I thought I would take some time and share some thoughts I know we all have while sitting through the first day of class:

1. What the heck is an ACE objective?

2. I wish I was receiving a dollar for every time a professor makes us go around and say our name, major, and where we are from.

3. Did that girl really walk into an English classroom in an English building and ask "Is this English?" when she walked in the door?

4. I should have brought a phone charger.

5. What makes a professor hate their students so much that they do not allow laptops in class?

6. Is the textbook really necessary?

7. I hope the unassigned assigned seating chart isn't official today because I do not want to sit here anymore.

8. Please say there is no midterm.

9. Icebreakers do not break the ice, the silence is still tense.

10. How much longer do we all have to sit here in silence and stare at each other for?

11. Please don't open a powerpoint.

12. Why did he open a powerpoint?

13. Please don't start a lecture.

14. Why did he start a lecture?

15. When is this class gonna end?

16. Is it time for lunch yet?

17. Why is the guy next to me taking notes on the syllabus?

18. He has to be a freshman.

19. What class even is this?

20. Why did that guy just stand up and dab after the professor said this class is easy?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

The Importance Of Being A Good Person

An open letter to the good-hearted people.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
