There are a lot of things to say yes to when you're in your twenties. This is a weird time for a lot of young adults because it deals with so many different changes. Life can be overwhelming and terrifying at times but if there is one thing that will help you to keep your head on straight, it’s saying yes to new experiences. Is there a better way to find out more about who you are?
In your 20s, you should say yes to...
1. That new haircut.
Go ahead and change your appearance drastically. You can always keep changing it to something else later. This is all about self-expression and you might feel different about it in five minutes but go for it now.
2. Getting a pet.
Please do not go out and buy five dogs. Saying yes to a pet is more about learning how to take care of something other than yourself. Getting a cute animal that loves you back is nice and you might learn some responsibility in the meantime.
3. New friends.
Having old friends is great but making new ones is really exciting. Who knew that there was someone else out there who loved all the same things as you? Friends will come and go but never stop trying to talk to new people. They might just become your BFF.
4. Moving to a new town.
Moving far away is scary but even just leaving the town you grew up in can do you a world of good. It will change your perspective and keep you learning. And a change of scenery will go nice with your ever-changing-20-year-old attitudes.
5. Holding your tongue.
It might not always be the right choice, but sometimes it’s in your best interest to stay quiet.
6. Starting a new hobby.
Try out new things! You use to be scared of heights but things change so don’t be worried about trying something that you use to not like.
7. Becoming friends with your family.
As you get older, so does everyone else. Now that you and your family areadults, you are able to be friends with them and what bond could be stronger?
8. Having big dreams.
If you want to become the president, that’s okay. Don’t hold back on your dreams because you think they are too big or unattainable. You have time; the bigger the better.
9. Confidence.
Even if you have to fake it, confidence is key in anything you do. Learning how to be confident in your twenties will save you a lot of time if you start now.
10. Constructive criticism.
Everyone fails, and that’s okay. That is what keeps us trying. But when someone givesyou some feedback to do better, take that to heart to learn how to be better. They aren’t attacking you, they are trying to help you.
11. Thanking the MVPs of your life.
Being thankful is important, especially to the ones who have your back. Through the Twenties, you will learn who will really be there for you, so just tell them you appreciate them.
12. Getting out of your comfort zone.
This can go for anything. The best way to learn about yourself and what you like is it try new things. It’s okay if you never had sushi before but next time someone asks you to try it, say yes. Why not?13. Taking advice from others.
Some days we have it all figured out. And some days we have nothing figured out. And some days other people have been in our shoes. Ask people for advice, they usually are glad to help. You can learn from others’ wisdom.
14. Traveling.
Gaining a new perspective about how people live in different parts of the world can open your eyes to new ideas and feelings. You don’t have to go far, but go somewhere.
15. Saying "Yes".
Of course, you can’t say yes to everything but sometimes you’ll be happier if you go out with your friends instead of calling it a night. Or maybe if you have lunch with that cute stranger you met. Say yes to more, and if the experience sucks, just leave early.
16. Saying "No".
Someone told me one year that their resolution was to “say no more often”. This is the other side. But believe it or not, it’s okay to stand your ground and disagree with people. Itmight be good for both them and you.
17. Making bad decisions.
Learn from your mistakes. Just because you regret something, don’t let that drag you down…
18. Falling in love.
You don’t have to get obsessed with a person and have a perfect fairy tale. Just enjoy the things around you. Fall in love with long walks, and drinking beer, and doing sunrise yoga. Make your heart full.
19. Taking risks.
Nobody ever talks about the positive parts of taking a risk. It may be a cliche but it’s true. The greater the risk, the greater the reward.
20. Yourself.
Give yourself love and whatever you need because validating yourself and holding yourself in high regards is the most important thing you can do. You’re worth it. You can do it. And yes, it’s okay to eat those doughnuts if that is what's going to make you happy.
