As a junior in college now, I’ve often caught myself reminiscing and wondering about how time has passed so quickly. It doesn’t help that throwbacks seem to be such a prevalent trend lately — kind of a constant reminder that the past was a better time and to revel in it.
You’re probably thinking “why must social media constantly remind me of these throwbacks,” but what with my impending 20th birthday at the end of October, #sorrynotsorry, it can’t be helped. So, in honor of me, here are 20 facts that will make you feel très mature. It’s been a long time, guys.
1. Will Smith is now older than Uncle Phil was in the first episode of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

2. HitClips were hanging off the backpacks of all the cool kids over 15 years ago.

3. The Nintendo Game Boy is effectively a Game Man now aged 25 years.

4. The first episode of Rugrats aired 24 years ago, and the toddlers would now be aged: Susie-28, Angelica-28, Kimi-26, Tommy-26, Chuckie-27, Lil-26, Phil-26, Dill-25.

5. Christine Cavanaugh, the original voice of Chuckie and Dexter from Dexter’s Laboratory, passed away at the end of last year at the age of 51.

6. 1995 is as far away as 2035, which is the same year the I, Robot humanoid robot revolution is set to take place, so we should probs prep for that.

7. The Olsen twins have been smiling and posing the same way for more than 25 years.

8. The first episode of Friends aired 21 years ago.

9. Phoebe turned 44/45 this year.

10. Ross’ son, Ben, could legally drink alcohol this year. And the actor who played him, Cole Sprouse, just graduated from NYU.

11. The first episode of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, starring Cole and his twin brother Dylan, aired 10 years ago.

12. Beans from Even Stevens turned 25 this year, but looking at this picture makes it seem like Even Stevens’ first episode aired more than 15 years ago…

13. The Little Mermaid has been part of our world for more than 25 years.

14. If AIM was a child, it could vote this year.

15. Eminem’s daughter, Hailie, will be turning 20 on Christmas Day this year.

16. Kel Mitchell from Kenan & Kel is 37, but still hosts Orange Soda parties.

17. The Spice Girls’ Wannabe has been the anthem for preteen slumber parties for nearly a quarter of a century.

18. High School Musical broke free into our hearts nearly 10 years ago. (RIP Zanessa)

19. TLC advised us not to go chasing waterfalls 20 years ago.

20. Christina Aguilera’s single Reflection on the Mulan soundtrack has been fueling our intrapersonal rumination for 17 years.
