20 Things That Happen When You Have A Type-A Personality

Whether you know someone who is Type A, or you are one yourself, this type of personality is familiar to everyone. Typically known as those who are competitive, extremely driven, and often impatient, Type-A individuals can be a lot to handle. I am one of these people, and I am not afraid to say that having a Type-A personality can sometimes be challenging. For lack of a better phrase, the struggle is real. Here are 20 things that all of us overachievers know to be true.

  1. You always need a plan, and can get very upset if something interferes with it.
  2. The tiniest things can seriously stress you out, such as an assignment taking you longer than planned or someone not answering their phone when you really need to talk to them.
  3. You have a daily routine, and if someone messes that routine up, it feels like the end of the world.
  4. You can be pretty competitive, and you get upset when your friend gets a higher grade than you on an exam, even if it's only by two points.
  5. When you are planning a trip, you create an itinerary for yourself and those traveling with you.
  6. Waiting in line will spike your impatience, and when you finally get to the front, your irritation is sometimes taken out on the person working, even though you know it isn’t their fault.
  7. You have probably been called a perfectionist or controlling at some point in your life, but you accepted that fact a long time ago.
  8. When you care about someone, you really care about him or her. This sometimes causes you to go over the top with birthday celebrations or Christmas gifts.
  9. It is usually difficult to fall asleep at night because your mind is going at a million miles per hour. Making plans for the next day, overanalyzing what someone said to you, and thinking about how you are going to accomplish your goals can cause you to toss and turn for hours.
  10. You put your career goals ahead of your relationships because you don’t want to let someone stop you from achieving what you’ve been working so hard for.
  11. You are very independent and don’t rely on others to get a job done. That saying, “If you want it done right, do it yourself," is practically your motto.
  12. Making to-do lists is an everyday thing, and you sometimes even have multiple to-do lists for different types of tasks.
  13. Whether at work or in class, you tend to work quickly and finish your tasks before others, but you never compromise on the quality of the work.
  14. Stress is no stranger to you, and you probably even get chest pains from the anxiety you regularly experience.
  15. If someone wants something done, they come to you. You make things happen, and are not afraid to raise your voice if someone tries to get in your way.
  16. Procrastinating is not something you do because you know that if you wait until the last minute, your anxiety will be at an all-time high.
  17. Your thoughts can be your worst enemy because no one discourages you more than yourself. This is when you give yourself a pep talk and remind yourself of the person you want to be, and then make a plan to get back on track towards achieving your goal.
  18. You know that all of the anxiety you have is not good for your health, so you try to make up for some of that by practicing yoga and working out to relieve built up tension.
  19. You usually are balancing multiple things at once, and when you have some down time, you don’t know what to do with yourself.
  20. Sometimes you think life would be easier if you had a Type-B personality, but then you think, “Who am I kidding? I wouldn’t want to be anyone but my hardworking, overly stressed self.”

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
