20 Things I've Learned By 20

As my 20th birthday approaches, I’m starting to think about all the things I’ve learned during my teenage years. There sure are some things that I wish I could tell myself to do differently, but I can’t do that. Rather, I can reflect on the things that I have learned and can continue to learn from in the future.

1. If you want something, go after it. Even if it doesn’t go as planned, you’ll learn something along the way.

2. Tomorrow is not promised.

3. You’re lucky because your parents are the most supportive people in your life.

4. You’re lucky because your best friends are going to be your bridesmaids.

5. You succeed most when you step out of your comfort zone.

6. It’s okay to stay in and watch Netflix. You won’t miss out on anything monumental.

7. It’s important to take care of your body. You’re not a high school athlete anymore.

8. Networking is everything.

9. What’s for you will not pass you.

10. Remove toxic people from your life.

11. Save your money, but definitely buy that overpriced dress you can’t stop staring at.

12. Don’t be afraid of change.

13. Be kind to everyone you meet.

14. It’s okay to not know what you’re doing.

15. Making the effort to stay in touch with people you love is extremely important.

16. Always wake up early enough to get coffee in the morning.

17. Your past decisions and actions do not define your present self.

18. Cut yourself some slack. You do it for everyone else.

19. Follow your dreams and explore your passions.

20. Love the life you live.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
