20 Things Girls Should Do Before Their 20th Birthday

When many people approach their 20th birthdays, they tend to go into a crisis realizing that their teenage years went by so much faster than they realized. I know that when I turned 20 two and a half years ago, I was thinking the same thing. So, to make sure that no girl makes the same mistake I made before I turned 20 and go into a complete existential crisis for the last few months of their teenage years, I compiled a list of 20 fun things that every girl should do (or at least try to do) before they turn 20, because everyone needs to realize that the fun doesn't stop with their teenage years.

1. Read as many new books as you possibly can.

Not only reading itself grows your brain, but reading new books can grow your brain even more and expose you to new adventures and new places.

2. Ask your crush out that you've been meaning to ask out for a long time.

Life's too short for you to be chickening our or waiting for your crush to make the first move, try asking them out as a way to get out of your own comfort zone.

3. Try to do at least one active thing every day.

Staying healthy will make your 20's that much more awesome.

4. Write a song or learn how to play one of your favorite songs on the guitar or piano.

Got an ear for music? This one would be a perfect one to accomplish before your 20s are over.

5. See if one of your favorite bands or artists is having a concert.

If so, find the tickets and dance until you drop.

6. Explore a national park with your family and take time to breathe in all that air.

Not only you will learn new things about a new place, you can also get out of the house while doing it.

7. Learn a language you're not too familiar with.

Learning another language can help grow your brain and can help you communicate with lots of new people.

8. Speaking of learning a foreign language, go on a vacation to a different country.

You can put those language skills to the test by traveling to a new country and you can learn new things along the way.

9. Go on a road trip with your best friends and plan the route you want to take and the places you want to visit.

Not only it's a great learning experience, it's also a great bonding experience.

10. Learn how to cook a healthy and delicious dinner all by yourself.

This one can help you learn a life skill you would need for the rest of your life. Plus, making something healthy will make you and your body feel a lot better in the long run.

11. Find a hobby you love doing and start doing it more regularly.

Do you feel like you haven't been doing any of your favorite hobbies recently because of sheer business? When you start doing hobbies more regularly, you will feel a lot happier and you will practice self-care along the way.

12. Have a marathon of movies you've never seen before.

This one can help you expand your film knowledge a lot more.

13. Go shopping for a kickass interview outfit for the future interviews you may have.

Once you get to your 20's you're going to be bombarded with job interviews; so make sure you have an outfit that says "I'm the best fit for the job!" prepared.

14. Build up your resume and your LinkedIn profile before all the big girl stuff kicks in.

And speaking of job interviews, your resume and Linkedin profile will need to be polished in order to apply for said jobs, so make sure they're updated.

15. Volunteer at a shelter (or anywhere in your town that's open to volunteers).

Not only you will feel good for helping others in need, but others will appreciate your time and dedication for a cause.

16. Send thank-you notes to everyone who has made an impact in your life.

A thank you note is a little way to tell your friends that you care about them and that you wish them the best.

17. Pull an all-nighter (and I don't mean the boring I-need-to-finish-this-paper all-nighter, I mean the fun all-nighter with your friends).

Having a full night of fun activities with your friends and then getting to spend all of the next day sleeping is the best feeling anyone will have in the world.

18. Get rid of all the toxic friendships in your life.

This will make your mental health a lot better. Toxic friendships can lead to a toxic lifestyle, so it's best that you cut them out as soon as you possibly can. The sooner the better.

19. Give away all the clothes in your closet that are either too small on you or that you don't wear anymore.

Don't throw all your old clothes away. There are a lot of people out there that would potentially need them.

20. Make sure that your 20th birthday is your most memorable birthday yet

I know that approaching your 20's seems like a scary time, but I understand. Approaching a new milestone in your life is a scary thing for all of us, but if you have fun now and try to do a few things that will help you prepare yourself a little bit for adulthood, you will realize that your 20's will not be as scary as you once thought they were.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
