I would hope that this being the 21st century, we would have learned by now that it is NOT okay to use stereotyping and gender roles with males and females. I compiled a few things I feel like we should stop and start doing.

Things we should STOP doing:

1. Stop telling your son he throws like a girl

2. Stop telling the little girl her tank top is distracting the boys

3. Stop telling that little girl playing in mud it's not ladylike

4. Stop telling the boy who wants to do ballet that only girls do that

5. Stop saying "boys will be boys"

6. Stop being afraid that your son will be damaged because he plays with baby dolls

7. Stop telling girls that boys only work in science, engineering, construction, etc.

8. Stop telling girls that boys who bully them only do it because they like them

9. Stop telling girls that they should be shy, weak, and fearful

10. Stop telling boys they have to be strong, assertive, and unemotional

Things we should START doing:

1. Start telling your son that saying someone throws like a girl is sexist

2. Start letting girls express themselves without fear or ridicule

3. Start letting that little girl make mud pies to her heart's content

4. Start telling that boy how awesome it is for him to do ballet

5. Start teaching boys how to behave and help end the cliche

6. Start letting your son play with baby dolls, and it will help him learn to be gentle and nurturing

7. Start telling girls they can work in any field

8. Start teaching boys to not bully girls and tell girls this is NOT okay

9. Start telling girls that they can be strong, independent, and brave

10. Start telling boys they can cry, be shy, and can show all emotions

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
