20 Songs That Will Pump You Up

I love listening to music, and I love being happy. I think it is important to remember that these two things can affect one another. Music can in fact make you feel happy, and your mood can affect what kind of music you’re listening to. So, here’s a playlist you should make a CD of to listen to in your car just to pump you up! If you’re in a good mood, it will just get you going, and if you’re in a bad mood, I hope that it will lift your spirits. Enjoy!

1. I Feel Good by James Brown

Whenever I hear this song, it makes me what to shimmy. It literally makes you feel good, even though it’s a love song.

2. Walking On Sunshine by Katrina & The Waves

This song brings me back to being a kid, hanging out with my family. This song can make you want to dance or jump around, and can make you feel like everything is great and it will be a great day!

3. Three Little Birds by Bob Marley

“Everything is gonna be alright”. Best. Lyrics. Ever. This song will never get old and will always bring a smile to your face.

4. Beautiful Day by U2

I love this song. It reminds you that even though you may be facing some obstacles at the moment, it can still be a “beautiful day.”

5. Wannabe by The Spice Girls

“Tell me whatcha want, watcha really really want”. This song comes on in a bar, all 90’s babies go NUTS. Singing along to this one makes you wanna sing it loud and proud. All though, if you really wanted to be my lover, please do not get with my friends.

6. No Scrubs by TLC

CLASSIC. You and a couple of the girls in your car screaming at the top of your lungs, because “I DON’T WANT NO SCRUB”. Also, such a good karaoke song.

7. Boom Boom Boom Boom by Vengaboys

I remember hearing this song for the first time in the 8th grade. Even though I didn’t fully understand it at that time, my friends and I sang along to it anyway. It will always make me laugh.

8. The Thong Song by Sisqo

Such a one hit wonder, but I find this song to be a little silly and entertaining and I can’t believe it was ever on the radio.

9. Pump Up The Jam by Technotronic

This song really gets you going. I listen to this a lot when I exercise because it makes me feel amped up. It also makes me want to dance when I am out with my friends. It has that effect.

10. Tubthumping (I get knocked down) by Chumbawamba

Not only is this song just super catchy, it is fun to sing along to when you feel defeated. Keep getting back up!

11. Remix To Ignition by R. Kelly

Perfect if it’s the weekend, if you’re sipping on coke and rum, or if you’re drunk. Definitely a crowd fave.

12. Ants Marching by Dave Matthews Band

Dave Matthews is my all time fav, and this is one of my favorite songs. It inspires you to take some chances.

13. Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield

Okay so maybe this song doesn’t amp you up, but it certainly does send a good message and can warm your heart.

14. Don’t Stop Believing by Journey

This has got to be one of my favorite songs. Hearing this song in public makes everyone sing their heart out. Hearing this song by yourself, still makes you sing your heart out. Seriously, what a great message… “don’t stop believin'’”

15. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper

Do I even need to explain this one?

16. Eye Of The Tiger by Survivor

Just from the first few seconds, you know when this song is playing. Yes, I believe it will always take me back to my first time watching “Rocky”, but it truly is just such an uplifting song that gives you the feeling that you can do it! (whatever “it” is).

17. One Week by Barenaked Ladies

This is one of me and my cousins' favorites. This song is a little relatable, and it is catchy enough that you always want to sing along to the parts you can actually keep up with. (I almost know all the words, not quite).

18. Hey Ya by Outkast

Outkast in general has a handful of songs that just make you wanna get up and dance, but Hey Ya is my favorite. My friends and I are always singing and clapping along. Shake it.

19. Rock That Body by The Black Eyed Peas

Who doesn’t love The Black Eyed Peas? This one is perfect for a car ride, but also perfect for the dance floor.

20. I Wanna Dance With Somebody by Whitney Houston

*Cue girls everywhere looking at their friends singing oh-so-dramatically about wanting to dance with someone who loves them.* Such a glorious classic.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
