With the start of 2017, that means songs like “Umbrella”, “The Pretender” and “Paralyzer”, are turning 10 years old! These are the songs we used to bump to, scream the words to in the car with our friends, and some of us could even recite every single word. Even though these songs are now considered throwbacks, that doesn’t stop us from jamming to them when they come on. Here’s to the 20 songs that rocked our world in 2007!
1.Umbrella- Rihanna
From her third album, “Good Girls Gone Bad,” “Umbrella” features Jay-Z. Umbrella refers to a romantic and platonic relationship and the strength of that relationship. The song won two awards at the MTV Video Music Awards. This song ALWAYS came on during the summer, and brings me back to those summertime days.
2.This Ain’t A Scene, It’s An Arms Race- Fall Out Boy
From their third album, “Infinity on High,” the song officially debuted on November 21st at the American Music Awards. The song was released as a downloadable track for the video game Rock Band in 2008. Whether you think you’re out of your punky/emo phase, when this song comes on, you’re brought right back!
3.Crank That (Soulja Boy)- Soulja Boy Tell’em
A debut single by American rapper Soulja Boy Tell’em. It was the lead single off the album, “ Souljaboytellem.com,” and accompanies the Soulja Boy Dance. It caused what has been called “The biggest dance fad since the [mid-1990s] Macarena. We all know that when Soulja Boy comes on we stop what we’re doing and we dance, that’s just how it is!
4.What I’ve Done- Linkin Park
From their third studio album, “Minutes to Midnight,” “What I’ve Done” is the first single. It serves as the main single from the movie “Transformers.” Also, featured in Rock Band 3 and Guitar Hero World Tour.
5.Paralyzer- Finger Eleven
This is from Finger Elevens fifth album “Them vs. You vs. Me.” It appears in Video Games like Rock Revolution, Guitar Hero on Tour: Modern Hits, Band Hero, and Rock Band. This is one of those songs that can come on in the car, and you’ll recite every word with your friends.
6.This Is Why I’m Hot- MiMS
From his debut album, “Music is My Savior.” Features samples from various artists like Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, and Dr. Dre. If this song doesn’t hype you up, I don’t know what will.
7.Never Again- Kelly Clarkson
From her third album, “My December,” This song was almost not released for its harsh lyrical nature. The song was kept due to the fact it was so real and raw. We thank Kelly for the rawness, I’m pretty sure any girl has listened to this during a breakup.
8.Party Like A Rockstar- Shop Boyz
Off their debut album, “Rockstar Mentality,” It references various rock figures like, Marilyn Manson, The Osbourne’s, Kiss, and Queen. This song is also one of those few songs that get you in the mood to dance and just let loose!
9.A Bay Bay- Hurricane Chris
“51/50 Ratchet,” was his debut album, with “A Bay Bay,” featured as the main single. The song eventually hit number seven on the Billboard Hot 100. This song would come on during school dances, and everyone would rush in yelling and screaming.
10.Buy You A Drank (Shawty Snappin’)- T-Pain
Released on his second album, “Epiphany,” This track features a guest verse from Yung Joc. T-Pain describes the meaning of the song as “… Lots of people start their relationships in the clubs. Whole conversations begin with some guy buying a young lady a drink. I wanted to make a song for those folks.” Again, one of those songs you can just recite completely and let yourself relive the glory days of 2007!
11.The Pretender- Foo Fighters
Off their album, “Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace,” It was written after much of the album had already been recorded, and then was decided to become the opener for the album. “The Pretender,” just brings you back to that rock scene you once knew so well as a teenager.
12.Icky Thump- The White Stripes
“Icky Thump,” was off the White Stripes sixth and final album, “Icky Thump.” The song deals with the topic of immigration to the United States. Always a good song to go boarding to or cleaning because of the constant tempo.
13.Fluorescent Adolescent- Arctic Monkeys
Released on their second album, “Favourite Worst Nightmare,” it was first released in Japan, and then the UK. “Fluorescent Adolescent,” is a ballad about getting older and finding out that life isn’t fun anymore. I find myself dancing to this song in my bedroom quite often, for me, this song is still a part of my everyday life!
14.Lip Gloss- Lil Mama
Released on her “Voice of the Young People,” debut album, and was number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Lip gloss" is a song that gets you moving, grooving, and jumping, you know all the words and you aren’t afraid to show it.
15.Bleed It Out- Linkin Park
Also from “Minutes to Midnight,” it has been featured in the video game Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. Linkin Park never fails to get you feeling upbeat but in a dark way.
16.Misery Business- Paramore
Released as the lead single on their second album, “RIOT!” the song is said to be about a male friend who was being manipulated by a girl. We have all wanted someone that we couldn’t have, and this song explains exactly how that feels.
17.Signal Fire- Snow Patrol
“Signal Fire,” can be found on the soundtrack for Spider-Man 3. It was initially offered to Shrek the Third. The lyrics of this track gives you all the feels, the slow and soft sounds mixed with powerful lyrics really bring some emotions out.
18.Shut Up And Drive- Rihanna
Also off the album, “Good Girls Gone Bad,” it incorporates influences of 1970s and 1980s musical styles. A very upbeat and ready to go song, In the car with your friends with the windows down type of song!
19.When You’re Gone- Avril Lavigne
Avril has said “The song is about being with someone you love, and have to say goodbye, and it’s all the little things you miss about them.” This song gives me the feels, I remember being upset about a boy and just listening to this song over, and over, and over again.
20.Shadow Of The Day- Linkin Park
Also on the “Minutes to Midnight,” album, its featured in the video game Rock Band 3.This song is one of those tracks you can just kick back and relax to, I remember listening to it with friends after days spent at parks,
