Loving someone when they're miles away, trying to keep the spark alive, and making sure you don't lose touch. It's all hard.
However, having my best friend live across the country has made me realize that long distance bestfriendships are just as tough, if not tougher. There have been gruesome times when we've gotten into petty arguments and full-fledged fights, but at the end of the day, I know that even though we aren't together physically, our emotional bond is stronger than any hardships we face.
So if you're like me and are caught in a long distance bestfriendship, these are some quick signs you can tick off in knowing what it feels like.
1. You’re always counting down days till when you get to see her next.
2. You’ve mastered the plethora of free messaging and calling apps that includes Viber, Whatsapp, Google Hangouts, and many more.
3. You know her mailing address by heart in case you want to surprise her with a present.
4. You’ve talked to her about writing each-other letters (bonus points if you actually do write each-other letters).
5. You live vicariously through her Instagram and any other pictures she posts or is tagged in.
6. You get offended when she has inside jokes with other friends.
7. Your Skype sessions last between 1 to 4 hours.
8. You exchange stories about your love lives and form strong opinions about guys you’ve never even met before.
9. You plan Thanksgiving and Spring Breaks around visiting her.
10. On that note, you plan BFF vacations way too often.
11. Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants is the probably most inspirational movie you’ve ever watched.
12. She’s the first in your Favorite Contacts because you talk to her more than you talk to people who you physically spend time with.
13. You’re a pro at quick conversations between classes or post-exciting events when you need to tell her what's up without having much time to do so.
14. You turn into a math whiz when it comes to calculating what time it is in her city.
15. You check the price of a plane ticket to visit her at least once a month.
16. You have a playlist of songs to listen to when you miss her.
*My personal favorites- “Depth Over Distance” by Ben Howard, “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts, “Jet Lagged” by Simple Plan, “All I Want” by Kodaline, “Set Fire To The Third Bar” by Snow Patrol.
17. Speaking of songs, you have A SONG that reminds you of her.
18. You SnapChat each-other about literally everything that happens during your day.
19. You know about all her friends and they know all about you.
20. You know that long distance can SUCK. However, you also know that for a friendship like the one you have, it's all worth it.
