College is an amazing place; it is a community of young “adults” experiencing life without their parents for the first time. But sometimes, a little break from studying and cracking open beers is much needed, and the holidays give us the perfect excuse to get away from it all. So here are 20 reasons we cannot wait to get home:
1. Seeing your family.
One of the hardest parts of transitioning to college life is not being able to see our families everyday, especially if you are out of state. We never realized how privileged we were until a phone call a day is the only option to talk with your mom or dad.
2. Squishing your pets to death.
Our pets probably didn't miss our obnoxious obsessions with them that much, but we just can't help it.
3. Sleeping in your huge, comfy bed.
Going from our own room with a queen sized mattress to a shared 12x12 room with a twin sized bed is not the easiest.
4. Jumping on your hometown friends when we see them because one semester is too long.
I missed you b*tches way too much.
5. Getting to eat at all your favorite restaurants that campus doesn't offer (Portillo’s for all of you Chicago people).
We all have those restaurants that we never thought we’d have to live without. It’s okay, don't cry, they're there waiting for us to order the whole menu once we get home.
6. Not having to do your own laundry for a solid 3 weeks.
Let's be honest, we took having our laundry done for granted all those years.
7. No miserable 500 person lectures to attend.
You mean a break away from a professor who doesn't know how to work a microphone and no i-clicker’s? Yes please.
8. No pop quizzes, exams or projects.
Amen.
9. Being able to binge watch an entire series on Netflix with no self-guilt.
Good news! You can now binge watch the show your friends won't stop talking about and not have to miss class.
10. There’s no such thing as procrastination.
Don’t worry, wait as long as you want— oh wait, theres no due dates in your planner, guess it's back to bed.
11. Home-cooked meals.
Knowing where your meals are coming from and that they were made with love (and not fearing that you took the dish that had a hair in it)
12. Going to the gym whenever you want instead of whenever you don’t have class.
Working out when we wake up? Sure! Working out when we decide to finally get off the couch? Sure! Working out at night before bed? Sure! What else do we have to do?
13. Staying in bed until noon and not feeling guilty that you skipped your 8 a.m.
Waking up naturally and not from the sound of our brutal alarm? You got it.
14. Being able to make some extra money since you blew it all on late night food and long islands.
It's safe to say your “college budget” has taken a hit this semester.
15. Walking around the house in fuzzy socks and a blanket wrapped around you instead of having to trudge through the snow to get to class.
Not having to look presentable in the dead of winter? I’ll take it.
16. Having your car again and actually being able to find FREE parking when you go places.
Driving on a college campus might be close to impossible. Don’t get me started on the lack of parking spots…
17. Detoxing from all of the you know what that's been consumed throughout the semester.
My mom did tell me that alcohol has a lot of calories.
18. Coming downstairs Christmas morning reliving childhood memories.
Forgetting about all of your adult responsibilities for one morning and remembering what it was like to still believe in Santa is the best feeling during the holidays.
19. Huge, extensive holiday dinners with your family.
Feasting on traditions with your friends and family s close to priceless.
20. And most importantly, spending the holidays with family and friends that you aren't able to see as much since attending school.
Catching up with everyone from home is so rewarding. Being able to hug and laugh with each other instead of just a 10 minute phone call is even better. It is nice to realize that although we may have taken different paths in life, we all have each other to come home to.
