There are plenty of reasons to be thankful for the people you live with. They see the best and worst of you, and they can't leave you because they signed a legal document to stay in the lease until a certain date. If you're as lucky as I am, your roommates are your best friends in the entire world, which means you get 24/7 best friend bonding time. But sadly, the school year is coming to a close and the semester is winding down. As excited as you are about summer and warm weather, the idea of leaving your roommates for four long months is daunting. So here's 20 reasons to go give them another giant, running, jumping hug and thank them for putting up with you before you have to say goodbye for the summer.
1. They're always up for dance parties in the living room.
Especially on Valentine's day when boys are stupid or when Beyonce came out with the greatest album of all time and you all realized that you should bow down to her greatness.
2. Your Snapchat stories are almost entirely filled with them.
Maybe your roommates have a demonic crawl that they like to do with all the lights off and scare you half to death. Or maybe they like playing volleyball with a clementine. It doesn't matter what weird thing they're doing, you have it all recorded for future blackmail.
3. Wine nights (or beer or straight vodka nights) are a thing to be treasured.
You wouldn't want to be with anyone else when you're trying to forget the stressful week you've had. Whether you're going out to the bars or staying in with them, it's always a night to remember.
4. They're always up for an adventure.
Walking to McDonald's at three in the morning in subzero temperatures is not considered a good idea in most social circles, but in your house, it's obviously a good plan.
5. You have way too many inside jokes for anyone to ever feel included when they're with you guys.
No, we're still not getting a house chainsaw. I don't care what the darkies are saying to you.
6. They're there when you need to vent.
When a boy broke your heart or your family life was chaotic or your Shakespeare professor crushed your soul and your GPA all in one semester, they were there to listen.
7. When you get sick, they drop their schedules to take care of you.
(Sorry for getting us put in quarantine at the hospital, that was my bad.)
8. And they're always there to give Instagram advice.
"Okay, so this picture, but which filter? Valencia? Are you sure?"
9. Since your closets are so close to each other, it's not uncommon for your clothes and their clothes to just merge together.
Your wardrobe just doubled or tripled and you could not be more thankful on Friday night. But sadly, your shoe sizes may not all be the same because you have gumbo feet and your roommates have the feet of delicate Disney Princesses.
10. If the question is food, the answer is yes.
Jimmy Johns, Aubree's, Vango's, Pizza Hut, the list of places we waste our money at goes on and on.
11. They confiscate your phone when they know you're going to do bad things with it.
In hindsight, they probably saved you from a lot of awkward conversations with boys you should not be speaking to.
12. You have a live-in hair stylist, makeup artist, manicurist, or eyebrow technician to use whenever needed.
It's a pretty convenient set up.
13. They motivate you.
Or at least they try. (Sorry waking up at six to do Insanity could not last forever.)
14. You always have someone to talk politics to even though every discussion gets you heated and angry at the world.
"Did you read this article?" "Yeah, but did you see the link I tagged you in?"
15. They don't care that your room looks like a tornado went through it.
Okay, so maybe they care a little. But they hide it very well and lie to you when you apologize and you keep your door closed, so it's all okay, right?
16. And they don't mind that you're a sloth that regularly flakes out on plans because sleeping is your number one priority in life.
Sorry, sleep is life.
17. Netflix and chill has never been such a lifestyle choice.
From "The Office" to "New Girl" to "Grey's Anatomy" to "Glimore Girls" and to everything else in between, it's been a wild ride of marathons and days without getting off the couch at all.
18. They are the most supportive people in your life.
Got an internship? Got an A on a rough exam? Your dreams came true? It doesn't matter how small or enormous the accomplishment is, they will always support you and be the first people you want to tell good news to.
19. They know all your flaws, but love you anyway.
(Sorry I'm the most indecisive, unobservant, sleep obsessed human being in the world.)
20. They're your best friends.
If you're lucky, and I mean really, really lucky, you end up rooming with people you couldn't imagine living without. They're by far the best people in your life and there would be a giant gaping hole in your life without them. For all the crazy, hectic times, and all the amazing memories you'll never forget, you could not be any more thankful that you signed your name to that lease.
