It seems that every day you see somebody post on social media "give me a new band to listen to!" or "somebody tell me a song to listen to!", so that's what I'm here to do for you right now. This is a list of 20 rock, pop-punk, or alternative genre bands, who may or may not be in your regular genre of music. It's time to sit back, open your ears, and listen to some new music, my friends.


1. Neck Deep

Neck Deep is a Welsh pop-punk band from Wrexham who formed in 2012 and signed with Hopeless Records in 2013.

Studio Albums: Wishful Thinking (2014), Life's Not Out to Get You (2015)

Members: Ben Barlow, Fil Thorpe-Evans, Dani Washington, Matt West, Sam Bowden.


2. State Champs

State Champs is an American pop-punk band from Averill Park, New York, formed in 2010. The band signed to Pure Noise in 2012.

Studio Albums: The Finer Things (2013), Around the World and Back (2015)

Members: Derek Discanio, Tyler Szalkowski, Ryan Scott Graham, Tony Diaz, Evan Ambrosio.


3. Real Friends

Real Friends is an American pop-punk band from Tinley Park, Illinois which formed in 2010. They have been signed with Fearless Records since 2013.

Studio Albums: Maybe This Place Is The Same and We're Just Changing (2014), The Home Inside My Head (2015)

Members: Brian Blake, Kyle Fasel, Dave Knox, Dan Lambton, Eric Haines.


4. The Story So Far

The Story So Far is an American pop-punk band from Walnut Creek, California, formed in 2007. They signed with Pure Noise Records in 2010, but released a split record with musician Morgan Foster under Barrett Records in 2011.

Members: Parker Cannon, Kelen Capener, Kevin Geyer, William Levy, Ryan Torf.


5. Knuckle Puck

Knuckle Puck is an American pop-punk band from the south suburbs of Chicago, Illinois who started out as a cover band. After starting to write their own songs in 2011, they got signed to Rise Records in 2014.

Members: Nick Casasanto, Kevin Maida, Ryan Rumchaks, John Siorek, Joe Taylor.


6. Moose Blood

Moose Blood is an English rock band based in Canterbury, Kent. They formed in 2012 and are currently signed to Hopeless Records.

Studio Albums: I'll Keep You in Mind, From Time to Time (2014), Blush (2016)

Members: Eddie Brewerton, Mark Osborne, Glenn Harvey, Kyle Todd.


7. Chunk! No, Captain Chunk!

Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! is a French rock band formed in 2007 in Paris. They signed with Fearless Records in 2011, after releasing their self-produced album.

Studio Albums: Something For Nothing (2010), Pardon My French (2013), Get Lost, Find Yourself (2015)

Members: Bertrand Poncet, Éric Poncet, Paul Cordebard, Mathias Rigal, Bastien Lafaye.


8. PVRIS

PVRIS (pronounced Paris) is an American rock band from Lowell, Massachusetts. The band signed to Rise Records in 2014.

Studio Albums: White Noise (2014)

Members: Lyndsey Gunnulfsen, Alex Babinski, Brian MacDonald.


9. ISSUES

Issues is an American band formed in 2012 in Atlanta, Georgia signed to Rise Records in the same year.

Members: Tyler Carter, Michael Bohen, Josh Manuel, Skyler Acord, AJ Rebollo.


10. ROAM

ROAM is a British pop-punk band from Eastbourne who formed in 2012 and signed to Hopeless Records in 2014.

Members: Alex Adam, Alex Costello, Matt Roskilly, Sam Veness.


11. The Wonder Years

The Wonder Years is an American pop-punk band from Lansdale, Pennsylvania that formed in July 2005. They signed to No Sleep Records in 2007, and later signed to Hopeless Records in 2011.

Studio Albums: Get Stoked on It! (2007), The Upsides (2010), Suburbia I've Given You All and Now I'm Nothing (2011), The Greatest Generation (2013), No Closer to Heaven (2015).

Members: Matt Brasch, Dan Campbell, Casey Cavaliere, Mike Kennedy, Josh Martin, Nick Steinborn.


12. Citizen

Citizen is an American rock band from Southeast Michigan and Northwest Ohio. They formed in 2009 while still in high school, and got signed to Run for Cover Records in 2012.

Studio Albums: Youth (2013), Everybody Is Going To Heaven (2015)

Members: Mat Kerekes, Nick Hamm, Jake Duhaime, Ryland Oehlers, Eric Hamm.


13. Man Overboard

Man Overboard was an American pop-punk band from Mt. Laurel and Williamstown, New Jersey that began in 2008. The band was signed to many labels, but was on Rise Records for a majority of their career. On January 28, 2016 the band announced a hiatus on their official website.

Studio Albums: Real Talk (2010), Man Overboard (2011), Heart Attack (2013), Heavy Love (2015)

Members: Nik Bruzzese, Justin Collier, Zan Eisenstein, Joe Talarico, Wayne Wildrick.


14. American Football

American Football is an American rock band from Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, originally active from 1997 through 2000. They reunited in 2014 and played a festival set and announced three headline shows in the fall of that year, and have since remained together. The band signed to Polyvinyl Records in 1999 and have remained signed to them since.

Members: Mike Kinsella, Steve Lamos, Steve Holmes, Nate Kinsella.


15. Basement

Basement is an English rock band that formed in 2009 in Ipswich. They went on hiatus following in November 2012 and on 29 January 2014, the band announced that they would be reuniting. They were signed to Run for Cover Records in 2010.

Studio Albums: I Wish I Could Stay Here (2011), Colourmeinkindness (2012), Promise Everything (2016)

Members: Ronan Crix, Andrew Fisher, James Fisher, Alex Henery, Duncan Stewart.


16. Modern Baseball

Modern Baseball is an American rock band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States.They formed in 2011 while in college and signed to Run for Cover Records in 2014. Their first album was self-produced.

Studio Albums: Sports (2012), You're Gonna Miss It All (2014), Holy Ghost (2016)

Members: Brendan Lukens, Jake Ewald, Sean Huber, Ian Farmer.


17. Seaway

Seaway is a Canadian rock band from Oakville, Ontario, formed in 2011. The band signed to Pure Noise Records in 2015.

Members: Patrick Carleton, Andrew Eichinger, Ryan Locke, Adam Shoji, Ken Taylor.


18. Like Pacific

Like Pacific is a Canadian rock band based out of Toronto, Ontario. They formed in 2009 and have been signed with Pure Noise Records since 2015.

Members: Jordan Black, Chris Thuang, Luke Holmes, Greg Hall, Dillon Forret.


19. Tigers Jaw

Tigers Jaw is an American alternative rock band from Scranton, Pennsylvania, formed in 2005. In 2013 the band announced their hiatus, although they have released music since this announcement. The band is currently signed to Run for Cover Records.

20. With Confidence

With Confidence is an Australian pop-punk band from Sydney that formed in 2012. They have been signed with Hopeless Records since 2016.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.

For many undergraduates across the nation, the home stretch has begun. Only one more semester remains in our undergraduate career. Oh, the places we will go! For the majority of college seniors, this is simultaneously the best and worst year out of the past four and here’s why.

1. The classes you are taking are actually difficult.

A schedule full of easy pottery throwing and film courses is merely a myth on the average campus. With all of those prerequisites for the upper-level courses and the never-ending battle you fight each year during registration for limited class seats, senior year brings with it the ability to register for the final courses you need to fulfill your major. Yet, these are not the easy entry level courses. These are the comprehensive, end of major, capstone courses designed to apply the knowledge from all your previous courses, usually in the form of an extensive research paper or engaged learning project. The upside is you actually probably really enjoy these classes but alas there is no room for slackers here.
