19 Thoughts All OU Sooners Have Over Summer Break
Maci French

As relieved as we all are for classes to be over, about two weeks into the summer, we all start missing Nompton. It's a fact. Relaxing by the pool is nice, but few things compare to OU tailgating, taco trucks in the South Oval and getting the privilege to attend the greatest college in the world. Boomer!

1. The University of Texas sucks.

Not actually being in school definitely doesn't change this.

2. Where is the closest Fuzzy's to my hometown? The Mont?

There is actually no way I can go all summer without a Jesus donut from Hurts.

3. I forgot what home-cooked meals tasted like.

I have survived on water and ramen alone for far too long. Okay okay and Tea-Caf.

4. Is there any way the construction will be over by the time I get back to school?

Yeah... absolutely no way.

5. I have so many quarters.

I haven't had to pay a Campus Corner meter in weeks!

6. Why do all of my friends live in different states than me?

I have like no one to hang out with.

7. Can I drive to campus just to check the progress on the stadium?

That has to be close to done by now. Which reminds me...

8. I cannot wait for some OU Football.

RAH-Oklahoma, RAH-Oklahoma....

9. Is there another Oklahoma school in the Big 12?

OS-Who? No, I've actually never heard of it!

10. I'm already dreading walking campus.

No workout compares to the walk to the Blender in late August.

11. Is the Alma Mater actually stuck in my head?

Neath a Western sky, OU's chant will never die. Live on University!

12. My high school is tiny.

I can't believe all of my classes used to be the same building.

13. The incoming freshman are so lucky!

They are going to have the most fun they have ever had in their lives. Boomer.

14. .... and also the most work.

May the odds be ever in your favor, newbies.

15. Yeah, I miss Norman.

The restaurants and campus corner and my friends. Can I go back yet?

16. Do I have to buy a new parking pass EVERY year?

Side note: Did I ever pay my parking tickets from last semester?

17. I should have never tried Baked Bear before I left for the summer.

I crave it every day. And I seriously mean every day.

18. I go to the greatest university in the world.

Hands down. Sooner pride runs deep.

19. Texas still sucks.

This one never really changes.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
