2018 is here and now, and with a new year comes the spring semester! Here are some things that I am looking forward to in this next semester:

1. New classes, New start

With the first day of classes, that means, SYLLABUS WEEK! That is basically two days of no real stress yet in my life, where I can lie and bed and sigh in joy. By the end of the first week, however, I'll have two papers, three readings and a test on my planner for next class.

2. Relay for Life

Relay for Life is a special thing that Susquehanna University does every year that makes such a difference in peoples' lives. Just by walking and giving people a place to tell their stories not only inspires others to help those in need, but we also raise money for a really important organization.

3. Seeing old friends and having new adventure

Me reuniting with my friends is always something extremely extra and I love it so much. The people I am friends with in college are people that I hope stay my friends until we're very old.

4. Going to see the game instead of doing my homework in the afternoons

I love going to see basketball or baseball games, and yes, even though I could be doing homework at that time, I am having fun. But don't worry, I do get my homework done every night.

5. Meeting new friends, whom will become old friends

Nothing is more special than meeting friends in a new class or event, and then slowly building a friendship that is so special and stays with you forever. I found that with my friends in my freshman hall, and I found that in my history methods class. I am so excited to hopefully get that experience again soon.

6. Greek Week and Airband

Airband, like Dance Showcase, is such an amazing time where you can see the fantastic and heavily practiced performances of the dancers. It is so cool. Also, Greek Week is one of those times where you can be competitive with the other organizations, but also raise money for all of our amazing causes. It is a time to express your pride to be a Greek man or woman and show some of the things we do.

7. Going to see the Spring Concert

The spring concert is always a blast and I am so excited to see the performer for this semester!

8. Always seeing a friendly face

With being one of the friendliest schools I have ever been to, even on a long day where nothing has been going your way, you can see a smiling face greeting you and saying hi. It really makes a difference.

9. Warm night on Smith lawn where I stargaze

Smith lawn is the perfect spot for napping under the sun and watching the stars in the night time. Even the moon is so pretty above our gym.

10. Recruitment season and welcoming new members

This is just plainly recruitment excitement for the Greek organizations and I'm excited about Bid Day. That was so much fun last year and I hope that the new members of my organization enjoy their time through recruitment!

11. Late nights doing homework in the library with friends

Yes, we do indeed do homework on Friday nights, but doing homework with your friends makes the time go by better, and they support you when you are struggling through your paper.

12. GO Class

I am extremely excited about GO class. This is the one class in the Susquehanna student's life where they are being prepared to travel across the seas to explore a place they haven't been before with other students and faculty. I am blessed enough to have many wonderful friends who are coming on this trip with me AND a professor who I adore.

13. Special nights at Charlie’s

Charlie's has some fun events; 25 cent wing night, comedians come in, Slam Poetry, Harmonic Combustion performs, and Bingo. Bingo is so much fun, however, I will say that I plan to WIN next time there is Bingo at Charlie's.

14. SAC’s Winter Wonderland

Ice skating, all of the games and the music. SAC really does a great job with Winter Wonderland every year so I'm hype to see what is happening this year.

15. Late night phone calls to a friend on the other side of campus asking to hang out

Those phone calls and texts are the best. There "wanna hang out?" and "I'm on my way" just makes me wish that all my friends and I could live near one another when we get older and graduate.

16. Orange and Maroon Day!!!

I love Orange and Maroon day. It just reminds me of how our school is united under those two colors, and besides, the color marron is a fantastic color.

17. Having impromptu trips

Random car rides with the squad is nothing but the best. Car singing, inside jokes and dancing, all melded together inside the confines of seatbelts just screams friendship.

18. El’s dinners when one is feeling “fancy”

An El's panini and some of their homemade chips can brighten anyone's day. Enough said.

19. Crying at Commencement

Just seeing all of my close friends, who are seniors, graduating before my eyes makes me so happy for them and extremely sad. I'm going to miss many of the class of 2018, and I know they will be going to do amazing things.

This is just a short list of the things I am excited for in the 2018 Spring semester. With all the crazy drama, politics and just negative feelings in the world, it’s always good to think about the good in your life. Be the change you wish to see in the world.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
