18,000 Feet Up In The Air

Because being on solid ground is sometimes not enough.

The feeling of being simultaneously scared and excited is one I’ve always been drawn to. The rush of adrenaline that I feel in my body every time I do something exhilarating is a feeling I can’t fully describe. After years and years of pushing it back, I was finally able to cross something off of my Bucket List that I never thought I would have the guts to go through with: skydiving.

Honestly, it didn't click that I was going to do it the morning of. The feeling of excitement and nervousness were my main emotions. But, after a while, it started feeling as though everything in the universe was telling me not to do it. After my friends and I signed our lives away, got into the appropriate clothing, and got harnessed we were told we couldn't jump because of the insane amount of fog there was that morning (Reason #1 why I thought the universe was telling me not to do it). While we were waiting for it to clear up, we met with the instructors that we were going to be strapped to. Personally, I think that whoever you are going to jump with, should be someone you feel comfortable with. And unfortunately, my instructor did not give me the reassurance that I needed. While all of my friends harnesses were getting secured multiple times, he only did it once and then went to take a smoke break...to be honest he was actually kind of an ass (Reason #2). Luckily for me, he got a family emergency and had to leave, thus I was given another instructor who I felt 100x more comfortable with.

When the skies finally cleared up, two hours later, we were finally given the all clear to get into the plane. 18,000 feet later and what I was about to do finally hit me. Peering over the plane and seeing nothing but clouds made me have second doubts for a quick second, but before I knew it I was flying in the air. After that the feeling of it can't be put into words. I've sat here for ten minutes trying to come up with a way of explaining it, but I don't think I can—I think it's a feeling only people who have done it can really get it.

Do I regret doing it? Definitely not.

Would I do it again? Absolutely.

In my opinion, it's something everyone should do at least once in their lifetime. There's nothing like it. However, do your research. Make sure you understand all of the instructions given and if you don't ask. Make sure you are comfortable (as much as you can, given the situation lol) throughout the whole process, it will make your experience 10x more enjoyable. And if it's your first time doing it, I definitely recommend getting it filmed/ pictured.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
