18 Things We Learned From Rory Gilmore

After years of watching Gilmore Girls over and over again, I realized that Gilmore Girls was not just a show to me, and Rory Gilmore was not just a character. Rory Gilmore is a role model, and the kind of girl that we should strive to be like. Here are the things Rory Gilmore taught me that helped me get through many ups and downs in life:

1. It’s okay to be by yourself.

Just because you don’t have tons of friends at your school, or you don’t have a boyfriend at the moment, doesn’t mean that you are a loner. Sometimes you just like to be alone. It is perfectly fine if you want to read a book and listen to youR iPhone (Walkman) at lunch.

2. It’s okay to speak up for yourself.

Even though you might be a naturally quiet person like the fabulous Rory, you should be willing to stand up for yourself when you need to. She was never afraid to go after what she wanted and what she knew she deserved.

3. Wealth does not equal happiness.

Although Rory was never by any means poor, she was also never wealthy. She definitely did not have the best and finest of everything, and even on the rare occasion that she was given it, she didn't really want it. She didn't care if she didn't have the best things, she didn't need it to make her life great.

4. Always make room in life for adventure.

Whether that’s backpacking across Europe with your amazing Mom, or going on a weekend trip with strange people you’ve never met, just make sure that you aren’t afraid to take a chance and do something different!! It could change your entire perspective on things.

5. If you want something, go get it.

Even if that means showing up to your ex boyfriends house pretending to be a girl scout, do whatever it takes to get what you want! There is no reason that you should let anything hold you back in life (especially pride).

6. You have to wallow.

If a guy just shattered your heart into a million pieces, or you just got fired from your dream job, or your childhood pet just died, you need to wallow. So put on your favorite pj’s, get the worst kind of food, put on a sappy movie, and cry for as long as you need! It’s necessary!!

7. It is okay to give a little on what you think should happen.

If the person you love is asking you to cook a meal every once in a while, but you don’t think that is a woman’s job, it is okay to give just a little bit for the person you love. Trust me, they have probably done the same for you too.

8. Do not worry about what other people think.

I know this sounds really cliché, but seriously your life will get so much better when you stop caring about what the cool kids think about you. When Rory knew that people didn’t like her, she did not even care enough to take it seriously. So, if someone has a probably with you, just laugh it off, it will make the person that does not like you go crazy.

9. Focus hard on your school work.

Now I don’t mean that you have to love learning, and study for hours every night, but just try hard to make good grades, it will pay off more than you think it will! Although we probably won’t be getting accepted to Harvard and Yale anytime soon, it’s still a good idea to focus on your schoolwork, and you will feel really good about yourself once you make a good grade, I promise!

10. It is okay if you need a break sometimes.

If you work your butt off every single day, and are basically fighting to stay above water, it’s okay if you need to take a break! Just as long as you promise you will go back and not give up. Rory wouldn’t allow it!

11. Don’t ever do anything that you don’t want to do.

Don’t every let anyone pressure you into anything thing that you don’t want, just follow your heart and don’t let anyone influence your decisions. Just because your grandparents are boyfriend want you to get engaged and move to California doesn’t mean you have too!! Go on your Obama campaign tour!

12. Your mom knows more about what’s going on than you do, I promise.

Odds are whatever you are going through your mom has already been there and done that, so don’t just ignore her when she tries to give you advice. Take it, moms are almost always right.

13. Go experience new things, even if you have to do it on your own!

Just because you don’t have a friend or a family member to go with your on your next adventure, or the next big part of your life, doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t do it! Go for what you want, even if you have to do it alone.

14. Dress for comfort and style.

Rory was the Queen of dressing comfortable, but stylish too. If you are going to be uncomfortable all day, I promise you will wish you had worn your pj’s instead, so dress for comfort, but don’t forget to be a little stylish at the same time. (Insert hair flip emoji)

15. Friends are Family are important.

The whole town of Stars Hollow was just one big happy family and everyone knows it. Treat your friends like you would treat your family, the goods ones will be there in the good and bad times, and you’ll need them just like you need your family.

16. Make sure to always tell your friends the truth.

I can almost guarantee that if you lie to one of your friends, they will find out, and it will come back to bite you in the butt. So don't lie. Make sure to always be honest with the people that matter the most.

17. Make time for you family, always.

Even though you would probably rather hangout with your friends, in the end family will always be there, so make sure you give them the time they deserve.

18. Don't every let anyone else decide you future.

Just because someone doesn't believe in you like you believe in yourself doesn't mean anything! You can do whatever you set your mind to in life, so don't let a boss, friend, or anyone else tell you that you wont make it.

Rory Gilmore has had my back over many years by being a great person to look up to. To me Rory Gilmore is not a charecter but a friend.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
