18 Signs that you're an Alpha Phi at San Diego State

Deciding to attend college at San Diego State was one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life. This isn't because San Diego is one of the most beautiful cities in all of the country, or because I can be at the beach in fifteen minutes (although both things were deciding factors), but mostly because I wouldn't have found a group of girls like the ones I found in Alpha Phi.

Going through recruitment my freshman year was one of the scariest, and most awkward experiences I have ever endured. People say Rush is like speed dating other girls. When I came to SDSU, I knew a grand total of 2 people. Joining Alpha Phi has given me a home away from home, life long friends, and an outstanding support group that I know I will have for the rest of my fratting days, and hopefully for the rest of my life.

I could rave on and on about Alpha Phi and why its easily the best decision I've made, but instead here's a short list that will sum up the life of an Alpha Phi at SDSU.

1. All of your sister's contacts in your phone probably have a sunflower emoji next to them.
2. You will practice your “bop" to any song that has a beat, and allows you to do so.
3. You've forgotten the real lyrics to “No place I'd Rather Be" and have substituted them for a remixed rush version of it.
4. You have perfected “candid" photographs.
5. The Dungeon isn't a room where prisoners are held.
6. You know that the wooden front door has the best lighting for pictures, and you're willing to push through the crowd of twenty girls to snap the perfect one.
7. Your google docs always include jokes about your house mom or spray tans.
8. Playboy's Hottest Sorority.

9. Frat tanks are your everyday clothing choice.
10. You live and die for all house brunch.
11. You know you'll be having chicken for Monday night dinner.
12. You will always be able to find someone to go to Yogurtland or In-N-Out with you.
13. Beauty and Brains.
14. “hAppy mΦnday!" captions will be posted all over social media to start the week off.
15. Your feet somehow always appear on the Sorority Feet Instagram page.
16. Your home is inspired by Snow White and Sleeping Beauty.
17. You most likely have a giant teddy bear somewhere in your room.
18. You have 194 sisters to help you be apart of something bigger than yourself.

“Call it a clan, call it a network, call it a tribe, call it a family. Whatever you call them, whoever you are, you need one" -Jane Howard

Alpha Phi is my clan, network, tribe, and family all in one. I am forever thankful to have such a tight knit group of girls who I can lay on the beach with during the day, and frat my nights away with.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
