18 Reasons to Be Grateful for Your Older Siblings

Anyone who has older siblings knows that they are both a blessing and a curse. They make fun of you in front of your friends and stand up for you when you need it most. They babysat you when you were young, and they'll be in your wedding party when you hit the big day. They are basically cool older friends who are stuck with you for life. Ultimately, I couldn't imagine my life without my older siblings, and here's why:

  1. You don't have to serve as the guinea pig for new parenting techniques.
  2. They know the dos and don'ts of college like the back of their hands.
  3. They call you out when you're not making smart decisions.
  4. They can serve as a reliable filter when it comes to who you date.
  5. You automatically have a best friend at every family event.
  6. They make sure you'll never forget the weird things you did when you were younger.
  7. They make you feel better about a situation by telling you a story of something similar happening to them, and it turning out much worse for them.
  8. They love you unconditionally.
  9. They make fun of you for every thing you do, only because they love you.
  10. No matter how old you are, you'll always seem young and little to them.
  11. The cool older kids know you.
  12. They're like a taxi service, but free.
  13. They give you great advice about dealing with your parents.
  14. Actually, they give you great advice in general.
  15. Their out-of-state houses make great vacation destinations.
  16. Nieces and nephews ... need I say more?
  17. They have great connections for internships and jobs and can help set you up.
  18. They give you a unique growing up experience that you wouldn't change for the world.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
