As a young girl, I watched A Cinderella Story religiously and wanted my life to be just like Samantha’s – well, not just like, but you know what I mean. Who didn’t? She was super cool and stood out. She didn’t care what others thought about her. Plus, she got Austin Ames, so she was living the life.
Since Netflix just recently added A Cinderella Story, everyone has been watching it and reliving their childhood of watching this movie. I took it upon myself to create a list of all the questions every girl had while watching this.
1. How is her father so wealthy?
He owns a diner. How did he have such a nice house and nice cars?
2. How could her dad marry such a horrible person?
Fiona is disgusting and rude. She’s so dull and isn’t very smart. How could her dad not see through that? Using her own words, she’s “not very pretty and not very bright.”
3. Why did Austin and Sam never even tell each other their names?
At the very least, they could have told each other their first names.
4. Why didn’t they arrange to meet at any point while they were talking?
Why’d he wait to meet her at the Halloween Dance if they had been talking for months? Maybe they were scared or too wrapped up in the fantasy.
5. Why were the step-sisters so infuriatingly annoying?
And why did they drive separate cars everywhere if they went everywhere together?
6. Did Shelby know who she was?
She said, “Love the dress; hate her.” Was this out of jealousy or did she know Sam’s identity at the dance?
7. Why didn’t Sam introduce herself on the dance floor? Or at any point of the night of the Halloween Dance?
She recognized him immediately and didn’t even say her name. EVEN WHEN HE ASKED HER WHAT HER NAME WAS SHE DIDN’T SAY ANYTHING.
8. Seriously, how does the mask hide her identity that well?
It only goes around her eyes, so it’s not that hard to imagine her face without the mask. He even made a comment about her eyes and how they’re beautiful and hard to forget… Clearly he forgot or was lying.
9. How did he not know who she was?
He even asked himself this… “Man, how could I have seen you before and not know who you are now?” That’s what we want to know, Austin.
10. Why was Sam so scared to tell him who she is?
I get that he’s popular and she’s just “diner girl,” but they had a connection and they care about one another, I’m sure knowing your name wouldn’t make a difference.
11. Why couldn’t this be me?
This is one of everyone’s favorite scenes. Let’s be real, you were majorly jealous of her.
12. Austin, how do you not know who she is??
He looked in the yearbook and still didn’t notice it was her. They made eye contact and had a moment in the hall. How could you not just know!?
13. Why is Fiona such an evil bitch?
She did such horrible things throughout the movie, but the worst thing she did was change Sam’s acceptance letter. Nothing hates me more than her in that scene.
14. Also, why are the step sisters so petty?
And why did they think they could convince Austin they were Cinderella? Seriously, they’re so shallow, and their hair doesn’t even match… (Side note, how did he not put the pieces together when they started to quote his and Sam’s emails. How would they have gotten them?)
15. How does he not recognize her voice at the diner? Or her face? Or those eyes he loved so much?
Ugh, Sam, you could do better, girl. He’s not right for you. How could he not put two and two together? This movie is so frustrating.
16. Why didn’t you chase after her, Austin?
The “love of your life” was crying because your ex made a fool out of her and you just shook your head and put your hand over your face. Go after her, you idiot.
17. Why is this scene so perfect? Why couldn’t I be Sam?
This scene is everything. Every girl wanted this to happen so badly.
18. Why was this movie so great?
This was the best movie of my childhood.
After watching this movie for the 40th+ time, I still love it, but every time, my questions become more frequent. I just wish Austin would have known sooner, but hey, what good of a movie would that have been?
