17 Things I Wish My High School Self Knew

1. Stop caring about what other people think of you. Certain people’s opinions of you may seem like a huge deal at the time but when it comes down to it, what other’s think of you should be completely irrelevant to how you live your life. As they say, “Those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.” Live by this.

2. Your outfits really aren’t as cute as you think they are. Sure, your infinity scarf matches perfectly with your knit Uggs but that doesn’t mean you should wear them once a week.

3. Stop wearing Miss Me’s.

4. No really, please stop wearing Miss Me’s. You know the jewels hurt when you sit on them anyway.

5. Don’t be ashamed to “bum it.” Do it everyday if you want. You’ll be more comfortable and when you actually decide to dress up, you’ll look a million times better. It’s a win-win.

6. Don’t gossip. Yes, everyone does it and it’s the only thing you have to talk about with some friends but just don’t do it. You wouldn’t want other people talking about you, so why talk about other people?

7.On that note, If the only thing you and your friend have to talk about is other people, you’re not actually friends. Trust me, there is no substance to a relationship that revolves solely around putting other people down.

8. Take (and pass) as many Advanced Placement tests as you possibly can. Because you definitely don’t want to take College Calculus if you don’t have to.

9. What dinner group you go in for Prom really doesn’t matter. So just go with it because hey, at least you’re getting a free meal.

10. Get involved. Throw yourself into an array of extra curricular activitiess so that you can determine what you’re good at and what you like. Then, you can focus on these things in college and later in life.

11. Think for yourself. Make your own opinions and stand by them. Don’t let others tell you what is right or wrong.

12. Be nice. It seems simple but it is often looked past and this can make high school and the rest of your life so much easier. Some of the best people I know are well liked simply because of their kindness.

13. Don’t be ashamed of liking Justin Bieber. He is and always will be cool (hot).

14. That one test you failed probably won’t matter. Or the late homework, or poorly written essay. The quality of your future life is not determined by one grade.

15. That one party you couldn’t go to probably wasn’t that fun anyways. You definitely didn’t miss much, and aren’t all high school parties pretty much the same?

16. Hang out with your parents. And your siblings, and your grandparents, etc. You’ll wish you hadn’t taken this for granted.

17. Enjoy yourself. High school goes by quickly and it’s a heck of a lot easier than college.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
