With the New Year here, why not try something new. It can either be a small event or a big goal to take on. And this might help out some of you who are looking to do something new or reach a goal for this year. And for some of us, finding a new year’s resolution or goal (that’s just right for us) can be tough. So here are a few ideas to consider.

1.Travel to another state and/or country.

2. Read an entire book series

3. Save a little amount of money each week until the end of the year. Whether its 10 dollars or 1, by the end of the year you’ll be happy you saved.

4. Stay off social media for a day or however long you’re comfortable with.

5. Volunteer somewhere. You’ll feel good about yourself afterwards. Whether it is at an animal shelter or a homeless shelter.

6. Eat healthy for at least a week. Try going vegan or detoxing your body for a while.

7. Quit a bad habit. For instance, quit smoking or biting your nails.

8.Treat yourself to something at least once a week. Buy yourself that favorite shirt you’ve been wanting or that snack you’ve been craving so much.

9. Try a new food.

10. Learn a new language.

11. Foster an animal. If you don’t want to fully adopt a pet, fostering one might be right for you. Not only will you keep an animal off the streets or out of a shelter, you will be giving them the love they deserve until they find their forever home.

12. Create a new food to show off to your friends and family.

13. Start a new tradition for the holidays or just in general.

14. Don’t stress as much. Take more time for yourself this year and take care of your mind and body. Even you need a break sometimes.

15. Meet new people. Yeah it’s nice to be alone, but it’s even nicer to have people around you that you can connect with, especially if they’re new.

16. Try not to procrastinate so much with school or work. This year try and stay on top of everything that is going on in your life. This might also help you to become more organized as well and push yourself more.

17. And most importantly make more time for those who matter.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
