Love is not ...

1. Love is not a scorecard. It does not see favors or keep score about who did what when and where. Love is generous with its time and ability. It is not concerned with who paid for dinner last.

2. Love is not panicked. Love is not a need for each other. Love is "I love you right now and that should be enough," not "I love you because I need you."

3. Love is not dependent. Love is not smushing your two independent identities together to become one unit who cannot exist without each other.

4. Love does not hurt. If it hurts, it's something else. Love drives people sane, not mad.

5. Love is not a guarantee. It requires attendance, care, and gratitude. Love requires you to show up fully and completely to it, day in and day out. Love is a choice every day.

6. Love is not unbalanced. The two people's desires, dreams, feelings, hopes, and thoughts are equal. Love does not center on one person.

7. Love is not selfish. Love is selfless.

8. Love is not just in the big, romantic, showy moments. Love knows that it exists within the tiny moments.

9. Love is not explosive anger. Love is not ownership. Love is not control. Love is not force.

10. Love is not uncertain. Love is open and honest and transparent. Love does not restrain or constrict or conceal.

11. Love is not dishonest. Love is unfiltered.

12. Love is not unsupportive. When both people are independently happy and bring the happiness to the relationship, the highest love can be felt.

13. Love is not petty. It is knowing how to fight the good fight and when it is time to choose a compromise.

14. Love is not continuous apologies for the same thing.

15. Love is not just words. Love is actions.

16. Love is not affectionate feeling, but a steady wish for the loved person's ultimate good as far as it can be obtained.

17. Love is not just physical. Love is connection in a physical, mental, emotional way.

Love is bigger than you. To love someone is for their happiness to be the same as your own. Love is not what the movies tell us. It is better than that.
