2017 Will Be Awesome!

For many people, a new year brings new activities, hopes, and resolutions. For other people, a new year is simply another year-- it won’t make a difference for them.

However, for me, I cannot wait for 2017. I have 17 reasons upon why I can’t. Personally, I think 2017 will be one of the best years ever!

I don’t have any 'New Years resolutions' because I believe that if you truly want something, it’s not going to happen overnight or during next year. If you truly want something, I believe you have to work for it, and persistence, determination, and patience are key.

However, there are some things that new years do bring and don’t require resolutions to happen from out of nowhere-- they simply happen because you know that events will be right around the corner and you cannot control what you know will happen next.

For me, 2017 will bring my college graduation. It feels like yesterday I woke up in my freshman dorm room. I know all seniors will tell you this, but college really does go by so fast, and when I say “so fast,” I mean super fast.

Following graduation follows graduation parties. Even though I have no idea what I will be doing for my graduation party, I sure know for a fact my friends will be planning a ton of them. I am super excited for graduation parties. What can be more exciting than having that one last 'hoorah”'on the fact that we made it and this will be our last party session?

College graduation means I will finally receive my long-earned and well-deserved degree. I’ve been in school long enough-- from my Pre-K days up until now, I’ve been in school for a solid 18 years. I’m so over it and ready to be done. Being done with school forever sounds so nice right now-- even though we are all “eternal students.”

2017 also means being done with college. Four years-- even though sounds long-- consisted of periods of fluctuation. Some months went by super slow and the work flow continued to carry on for what seemed to be like forever. Other months, however, seemed to move at the speed of light.

Right now, senior year is moving at a lightning pace, and it’s almost scaring me to know that all of this will be over in about six months from now-- which means six months until I have to find out what I’m going to do with my life, six months to pay off student loans, six months to figure out where in the world I want to move to-- it’s all really pressurizing and stressful to know that you have to get your life in order within six solid months.

I know everyone says that years down the road, you may completely change your focus of studies into another job field. I know. But right now, it feels like I have to lay everything out in order to begin a fresh, new start as a post-grad. I want everything to be perfect and running smoothly so I can live the life I want.

Once I start saving up more money through work, not only can I not wait to pay off student loans-- just kidding; I can wait on that one-- I can also not wait to move out and live on my own. I’ve been living with my parents long enough. I cannot wait to become more independent so I can officially do more things on my own and not have to worry about certain house rules that make no sense to me.

With my degree, I can, hopefully, find a desired job. There are many different options to choose from with a mass media studies major. I’ll have to be sure to find another internship with a desired job-- and location-- of my choice.

It sounds really refreshing to finally know what I’m meant to do than to not know at all. Now, I know that no one’s definition of 'what I’m meant to do' is concrete. I’m well aware that changing career paths is fluid and nothing is ever stable. But for once, it’s refreshing to know that I’ll be doing something that I’ll enjoy once I graduate. And later in life, if a change of careers decides to change its course(s), then so be it. For now, I’m not worrying about it.

With a job, I believe it will be nice to only have to worry about working rather than to always worry about studying. For most of my life, studying has been the only thing that I’ve been mainly worrying about. It’s time for a change. A steady, predictable work routine sure sounds better to worry about than unpredictable exams and changeable study topics!

A steady job with a routine can get boring. I believe to live an enjoyable life, one must add variety to it. After all, variety is the spice of life! If you increase your connections at work, you are surely likely to add a variety of different personalities into the workforce mix-- now how could that ever get boring?

Plus, a variety of connections means you will learn something new everyday. Your co-workers may even help you with certain workforce transitions, or may even lead you down a path to something better and more inspirational. Maybe years down the road, you will realize that your coworker was right and a different career path actually is a better fix for you. In the workfield, you never know what to expect, and having a multitude of connections can only add to a good mix.

A good thing about having a steady job with a fixed pay is that you know for sure that you will, hopefully and if all goes well in the workfield, get a steady pay and a steady income. A steady income is nice in the long run because it will assure that you will be able to save up for whatever you need, and, with student loans, this can also assure that you will have set goals to one day pay off all loans and, once again, be debt free. How nice.

Once you establish a place to live and a new place to work (with a steady income, of course), I believe you will have established a new life and a life on your own. You will finally be capable of supporting yourself with anyone else doing it for you, and that’s some of the best freedom there is!

Over time, some people may or may not reach out to you, and the same thing goes for the fact that you may or may not reach out to certain people. These people could be the people you’ve lost touch with from over the years or people with whom you would like to re-connect.

If any communication exists, that means that certain relationships and friendships were meant to be. If communication lasts for a while, you will eventually find out who your true friends are-- the friends who were there to begin with, who showed up in the middle of things, and who no longer mattered or who no longer matters.

Once I finally have enough spare money for myself, I plan to use my money for a lot of traveling. There is still a lot of this world left for me to see and I would regret not going to certain places. Traveling to new places, seeing beautiful sights, obtaining new experiences, and meeting new people from all over the world makes me happy. I want to do whatever it takes to keep my travel bug satisfied and alive.

Life is not meant for staying in one place or doing the same things over and over again, repetitively. It’s meant for living it to the fullest and to be enjoyed. And in 2017, I will continue to live life to the best I possibly can-- only this time, 17 times better and with 17 times more freedom.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
