Going out in college isn't even comparable to those high school basement parties. It used to be small hangouts where the coolest thing that would happen is an upper classman would show up or Stacy and Jack would get back together. Again. Now you're dancing like an idiot even though you think you look really good, trying to make eye-contact with a random guy so he'll dance with you or figuring out where the hell all your friends went. This game change requires us girls to step up our act. Unfortunately, those leggings, boots and cute sweater just don't match up with the skirts, heels and crop tops (trust me I wish it did).
The process for getting ready is therefore very different and requires a lot more effort. This is one of the times where I wish I was a boy who could just throw on a button up shirt (or a jersey if it's a day drink because apparently it's the only time when boys wear jerseys), fill up a backpack, give one look in the mirror and head to the pre-game. For girls, it's a totally different ball game and all girls know the struggle. Here is what actually happens before all those beautiful ladies walk through the door:
1. Waking up and realizing it’s Friday (or Thursday if you can’t do 5 nights in a row without going out).
2. Going through all your classes waiting for them to be over.
3. Having a family dinner with the girls to discuss the plans for the night.
4. Or more importantly, who is stealing who’s clothes.
5. Showering while also practicing your dance moves in a 2x2 stall.
6. Taking a quick power nap to mentally prepare.
7. Struggling to get up from the nap because your bed is the closest thing you have to a functioning relationship.
8. But then remembering the pre-game starts in 20 minutes.
9. Screwing up your eyeliner 30 times because liquid eyeliner defies the laws of physics.
10. Burning your hand on your straightener and feeling the world is ending.
11. Trying on your entire closet, but then wearing the first outfit you tried on.
12. Patting off the sweat you just broke from trying to put on jeans that fit you in high-school (R.I.P. to the skinny days)
13. Finally, you have your whole look put together.
14. You finally make it to the pre-game, which entails of singing 90's classics as loud as you can while trying to find someone to go to the bathroom with you.
15. You start asking around your hall to figure out where people are going and you see your out-of-league crush in the distance.
16. All of a sudden it’s 11 pm and Ubers needed to be called 30 minutes ago.
17. Eventually the poor guy shows up and all 10 of you squeeze into what seems like the world's smallest car. Off to the party you go!
