As my first year of college comes to an end, there are many things that I've learned, from knowledge to further my education to things, to make me a better person. This year has been an emotional roller coaster and I've just been riding it all year long. So, here are some things that we all may have learned as freshmen in college.

1. Always go to class.

Always, always, always. Unless you are almost on your death bed and can't help it. Nine times out of 10, your teacher moves on with the lesson and you missed out. Then you go back to class with this, "What the hell?" look on your face.

2. College is hard and isn't always partying.

In order to make it through college, you need to know from the jump that it isn't all fun. The TV shows and movies are lying to you. With that being said...

3. Enjoy your social life but don't let it cloud your view of the finish line.

First and foremost, you're here for a reason: to get a degree in your desired major, not drinking or beer pong. Though that sounds nice right about now, it won't get you far if you constantly goof off.

4. You have to work your butt off.

Too legit to quit. Seriously, work so hard that you don't have a butt left.

5. The library is your second home.

Honestly, you will make yourself at home in the library, or "lib" as I like to call it. You will always find yourself going home. Even if you have absolutely nothing to do or nothing to study for...you will be there.

6. You will often find yourself at Starbucks.

You could absolutely hate Starbucks, but it will become your new bestie. I never went to Starbucks as much as I do now that I'm in college. I have become a stereotypical #basic #whitegirl.

7. It's easy to make friends.

Everyone on campus is as equally weird as you are. So go ahead, walk around campus with your weirdest clothes, your preppy style, or your skateboarding self. You'll make friends, trust me. With that being said...

8. Be active on campus.

Do whatever it is you do, from student government to Greek life. There is tons for you to do and tons of organizations that want you!

9. You and your old friends grow up.

Some things may change or may not change at all. Sometimes y'all end up going to different schools and y'all don't talk as much, but that's okay! Y'all will still talk and catch up, and when y'all do, it will be the best of times! Annnddd...

10. Don't burn bridges.

At all. Everyone changes and branches out in their life. It happens.

11. Live on campus.

Living on campus is another way to make friends! Even better, live with someone you don't know. It is honestly one of the best decisions I ever made! She is now someone I call a best friend!

12. It's okay to change your major.

Even if it upsets your parents...at least I'm not an exotic dancer! It happens. You live, you learn. That's the whole point of college, to find out who you really are and to find your way in life!

13. You realize you really aren't an adult yet.

I still rely on my parents sometimes. I'm kidding, it's more like all the time. You don't know life without them yet. And to them you're still their little girl/boy.

14. Don't set unrealistic goals.

Let's be honest, that's not going to get you far and it will only stress you out more than you already are.

15. Call your parents regularly.

Trust me, they want to hear your voice to make sure you're still alive and not doing anything illegal. But let them catch you while you're in class, then get pissy with them because they interrupted your education time.

16. Go to the gym.

It's free and why not?? It's a great way to get your mind off of things and to de-stress.

17. Embrace your freshman year.

Let everyone know you're a freshman and you're proud! Show your school spirit at the football games!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
