17 Bible Verses to Remember When You're Feeling Anxious
Lisa Hall-Wilson

I write a lot about my anxiety. Partly, to erase the stigma of what is literally the most common mental ailment in America, and partly because it’s such a huge part of my life. However, an equally huge part of my life is my faith. I’ll be the first to tell you that faith or prayer isn’t the answer to ending anxiety, an actual medical condition. But, it helps me. So, whether you’ve been diagnosed with anxiety or you’re just feeling anxious (Everyone does at some point or another), here’s my list of go-to verses to give me a little reassurance.

1. Exodus 4:14

The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.

2. Philippians 4:6-7

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

3. Matthew 6:27

And which of you, by being anxious, can add a single hour to his span of life?

4. Joshua 1:9

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

5. Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

6. Proverbs 16:3

Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.

7. Psalms56:3

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.

8. Matthew 11::28

Come to me, all who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.

9. Hebrews 13:6

So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”

10. Romans 8:31

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

11. Psalms 46:10

Be still and know that I am God.

12. Psalms 94:19

When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul.

13. Psalms 34:4

I prayed to the Lord and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears.

14. Romans 8:38

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.

15. Zephaniah 3:17

The Lord your God is in your midst, A victorious warrior. He will exult over you with joy, He will be quiet in His love, He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.

16. Mark 5:36

Jesus told him, ‘Don’t be afraid; just believe.”

…And my personal favorite:

17. Romans 8:28

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
