16 Ways You Know You're the Older Sibling

There's no experience quite like it.

16 Ways You Know You're the Older Sibling

1.) Every time you got something new, so did they.

While you got things new, your little siblings were stuck with your hand-me-downs, whether they liked it or not.

2.) While you had to wait until you were of a certain age for a cell phone, your little siblings got one right along with you.

Maturity guidelines go out the window when parents are dealing with a jealous child. Even though you had to wait for your first cell, your little siblings got one much younger.

3.) Your driver's license meant your little siblings had a new chauffeur.

A driver's license can mean a lot of things: freedom, independence, mobility and opportunity, just to name a few. But when you've got little siblings, it also means that your chore load just got a whole lot bigger. When it came to their school events, sports practices and just about everything else, you were their new ride.

4.) Getting your first car: Multiply number 3 by 10.

5.) When your parents wanted to go out, it meant you had to stay in. You were their free babysitter, available anytime they wanted.

6.) Your parents were much stricter with you than your little siblings.

Knowing what's safe for kids today is tough and you got to go along for the ride while your parents tried to figure it out. As a result, they were a lot more cautious with you than your younger siblings.

7.) You seemed like the "bossy one" because of the position you were in.

As the babysitter, chauffeur and older one in your sibling group, it fell on you to help keep your little siblings in line. You didn't ask for the job. You didn't want to boss them around. But it was your responsibility to do so.

8.) You know just how frustrating people can be.

You had a responsibility to watch over your little siblings, and sometimes, that was a heck of a task. There's nothing like trying to get a little kid to do what they're supposed to do, especially when it comes to a little sibling. They know you're family and they can get away with so much more around you, and they put that to use every time.

9.) You were expected to "set an example."

Even though you were just trying to figure things out yourself, you were expected to set a good example for your younger siblings -- like they listened to you anyway.

10.) Walking around school and seeing your younger siblings, and seeing them wearing your clothes.

11.) When your little siblings began to hit milestones, you started to realize how old you really are.

Nothing makes you realize your true age like seeing someone younger. Watching your little siblings, who seemed so young just a few years earlier, start high school, learn to drive and head off to college was enough to really make you think.

12.) You knew when you mastered an outfit because your little siblings weren't far behind.

13.) You'll make fun of your little siblings all day, everyday, but when someone else talks bad about them, all hell breaks loose.

14.) You've always had that little fear in the back of your mind that your little siblings will be first to hit a major milestone, like getting a first boyfriend, a first job or getting engaged.

15.) You got to pick out your bedroom first at the new house, simply because you're the oldest.

16.) Having little siblings is hard to beat.

Through it all, you wouldn't trade your little siblings for anything.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
