15 Ways College Is Just Like Kindergarten

I need a snack, a nap and my mom.

You might think that you've matured into a sophisticated young adult. Those 18 years being raised by your parents have made you into a person that can (sort of) successfully make it in the real world. You're living on your own, you decide when you come home at night, and you even pay for things. You might really think that you're grown up. Well, you're wrong. Being in college is almost identical to being a young child in kindergarten in more ways than one.

1. Naps are a must.

After discarding naps for years, you have reunited and realized your mistake. You now schedule them into your days because you can't live without them. Sometimes you don't know what to do so you just take a nap. #naps5eva

2. The second you get dropped off, you want picked back up.

3. Missing your mom is a common thing.

You still need them for everything: their advice on being a grownup, their love, a home for holidays and warm food , and sometimes their money (Sorry, guys).

4. You don't really know whats going on.

Ever. Ever. Ever.

5. Dogs make you SO happy.

Every time a college student sees a dog, they HAVE to pet it. NO. MATTER. WHAT.

6. You get excited when you find a dollar because you have no money.

College life is expensive. You've gotta keep up with college tuition, feeding yourself, treating yourself, and any other little thing that you decide you absolutely 'need.'

7. Animated movies are phenomenal.

You're still into it. You know the words to the songs and see the movies in theaters/ watch them on your laptop over and over again. And you may or may not know all the words to "Let it Go." (Your secret is safe with me.)

8. You constantly whine.

Nothing is okay, ever. Which means there is always something to whine about. 90% of the time we don't even know why we are whining.

9. You have lots of meltdowns.

It can still be anything. Or everything. It can feel like your life is falling apart on the daily. You have little, if any, control over your emotions or your surroundings. You are overwhelmed.

10. There are so many new friends.

"Do I ask them what their name is? Or what their favorite color is? What their middle name is? No, that's too creepy, I don't even know their first name yet. Should I offer them some fruit snacks or Goldfish as a peace offering?"

11. Your style is in an "experimental phase."

Fashion is still tricky to master. Let's not pretend the clothes on mannequins at Forever 21 are any more ridiculous than what we wore in the 90s.

12. Car rides are the best.

Something about being in a car is so exciting when you are forced to walk absolutely everywhere.

13. You need snacks and lots of them.

Snack Time. You can't live without it. You constantly need food. You are always thinking about it. It doesn't help that, during college, there is always free food somewhere.

14. TV beats homework...every time.

Yes, Netflix, I’m still watching.

15. It's a growing experience.

No matter what, we take away valuable life lessons from both kindergarten and college. We learn a lot academically. We also discover who our true friends are. And, overall, we learn what kind of person we’d like to be. Years from now, we’ll be reminiscing about the college days just as we ever long for the easier days of kindergarten.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
