Online shopping: the ultimate therapy. You need more granola bars but don't have time to run to the grocery store? Amazon Prime can get you them in just two days. Wait, you also need jeans? Well you can look at every brand your little heart desires with just a few clicks thanks to this beautiful thing called the internet.
As a poor college student, my addiction to online shopping has become a concern for not only myself but also my friends and family (sorry, Dad). I mean, how can you not love buying all sorts of things without even having to leave the comfort of your bed? The addiction can be hard to decipher so I decided to make a list of indicators:
1. You always have at least one tab open with a full shopping cart just waiting for you to click purchase.
2. When you get an email about a sale you're interested in, you immediately check the website.
It doesn't matter what you're doing, and chances are, you do not need whatever you're now browsing online but if the sale is good enough...well, that's a different story. Sometimes finding a good deal is worth the purchase, regardless of the price. And, if the sale is especially good, you text all of your friends to let them know too.
3. There’s no better feeling than buying something online from a great sale.
It’s like Christmas morning--except you're paying for all the gifts.
Last week, I bought two pairs of jeans for $18 each from Abercrombie & Fitch. INSANE.
4. You buy things for potential future events.
What if you get asked to a formal and you don’t have enough time to get a dress?
5. You have all your credit card numbers memorized within the first few months of having them.
And you dread checking your bank account...or getting that monthly text from your dad with a picture of the bill.
6. You get more promotional emails than real emails.
And by more, I mean 90 percent of your emails are from retailers. Sometimes you contemplate unsubscribing, but what happens if you miss out on a really good deal?
Is it, though?
7. You find yourself shopping online in class instead of paying attention.
Not hard to decide what’s more interesting…
8. You feel like you live at the post office.
You’ve probably also forgotten what you've purchased at least once. And sometimes you get excited thinking that someone sent you a surprise package, nope, it was just those shirts you forgot you ordered last week.
9. You find yourself constantly checking the shipping tracker for your most anticipated packages.
Because maybe the mailman decided to work a few extra hours so you could receive your package a day earlier.
10. You get an adrenaline rush when you try on clothes and shoes for the first time.
And when they fit, you feel like you own the world. But even when they don’t, you're not that upset because it gives you a reason to go buy it in a different size (and maybe shop for some other things while you're there).
11. Even though you can try on clothes to make sure they fit, you'd much prefer online shopping.
Not only can you find exactly what you want without having to sift through hundreds on items that are the wrong size, color, style, etc., but stores tend to run out of certain items pretty quickly. If anyone has it, the online store does.
12. No one can believe how you can fit all the stuff in your tiny dorm room.
Your room is the ninth wonder of the world.
*It's okay, I got it all on sale.*
13. You don’t get excited for Cyber Monday because you’ve found better deals online randomly throughout the year.
Example: my Abercrombie jeans.
14. Your friends go shopping in your closet.
If anyone needs something you're always the first person they go to.
15. You’ve gone to extreme measures to get items that you’ve found online.
Once I had a pillow shipped to my house (in NY) from Hawaii because it was out of stock everywhere except that one store. When I told the girl on the phone my address, she couldn't help but make a comment on how far it would be traveling.
16. Your biggest stress is that you won’t be successful enough in life to fund your addiction.
Because you love shopping and you’ll never stop. Having good style is the key to success, right?
And if you don’t become successful, hopefully, you marry someone wealthy or win the lotto.
