It's normal to feel insecure in a relationship, unsure, and often questionable about how much you matter to your significant other, especially when that honeymoon phase is over. You have those low days where you just need a few words to pick yourself back up. I began dating my boyfriend last Christmas season and so far, I've had many moments where I question my self-worth. He has seen every one of those moments and accepted it. He also knows the right things to say to remind me that I still matter to him.
So, inspired by messages from him, here is a list of things that any boyfriend can say to his girlfriend if she is like me some days and needs to remember her self-worth.
1. "I'm very proud to have you."
Proud is a strong word in my eyes and hearing things like this and "I'm proud of you" will make anyone seem important.
2. "You are my Queen."
Especially if it's the dancing queen—which I totally am. Besides, what girl doesn't want to feel like royalty sometimes?
3. "I'm here to support you."
Any new steps in life that someone takes can be nerve-wracking. Starting a new semester of college, applying to a job, or even getting back into the gym can use some support. So when a significant other says they will support you, you will feel like you can take on anything.
4. "I want you over any other girl."
Insecurity is something that affects EVERYONE, especially when you see someone you think is more attractive or smarter than you. Hearing this will destroy any thoughts of him having another girl on his mind. That she is the right girl for him.
5. "I never want to lose you."
The classic saying, "You don't realize what you have until it's gone," is similar to this one because saying this will show that they never want to go through that pain. That they can't imagine a life without the other.
6. "You're still cute, even when you're sick and icky."
Sneezing your nose off or puking your guts out never makes anyone feel the least bit attractive, so this is a good way to help them forget about any current physical issues they might be having.
7." I'm so excited for us and our future."
The normal idea about guys is that they can't commit, that when you start singing "Single Ladies" they run before you can start talking about a ring. This demolishes that idea and shows that you're not afraid of commitment. If you're not ready that's okay too. But when you are, this is a nice thing to drop in her DM to perk up her day, and her confidence in the relationship.
8. "Yay! I get to see you soon!"
During the honeymoon phase, it's normal to never want to be apart. You want to spend every minute with each other. Well, once you're out of that phase, you're okay with going a few days without hanging out because separate lives are a thing. This shows that even after you have spent an ample amount of time together already, you still get that jump in your chest when you see them driving up to your house.
9. "I love showing you off."
Some girls don't like to be "shown off" and that's okay. However, to the girls that put some serious thought into their wardrobe for date night and spend some time practicing that perfect contour, this shows them that their effort does not go unnoticed. It doesn't have to be for beauty reasons either, at graduations and special events, it's nice to know that they are proud to call you theirs.
10. "I want you to be healthy and happy with yourself."
If you love someone, you obviously care about their well-being. Making sure that they are okay inside and out shows a new level of devotion. Especially when you help them reach those levels of happiness and health. It proves that you truly care.
11. "You're made of tough stuff."
Reassurance of strength will always be needed, saying this can give any girl a Rosie the Riveter attitude and let them realize that they can do it!
12. "I still can't believe I got a girl like you."
No specifics needed in a statement like that, just knowing that they think you're the end-all-be-all in their eyes is perfect enough.
13. "You're my dream girl."
To be frank, I was shook when my man said this to me. Me? A "dream girl?" It is very comforting to hear that you're their ideal person. That you're their missing puzzle piece.
14. "You could wear trash and I would still think you're the prettiest thing in the world."
On those days where you just don't feel confident in your outfit or your hair/makeup, this can definitely get rid of that "I'm Oscar the Grouch because I basically am trash" feeling. Until you get to the just-woke-up morning phase because that is a whole other level.
15. "You may be a weirdo, but you're my weirdo."
Every girl has a goofy side, and it's only a matter of time before they unleash that side and possibly shock you. But after that, you realize they can be your favorite source of laughter after a bad day.
16. "I love you more than dirt."
This was sent to me at 3 a.m. from someone who was half asleep and honestly, it's so simple and odd. Yet I'm still laughing and blushing 8 months later.
It's never a bad idea to show someone you love how much you care. Little gestures can go a long way, and a simple few seconds to say/type some of these phrases can perk up anyone's day.
