If you are an avid reader such as myself, then you know how you feel about your books. Books are your babies. And reading takes you to a place that helps you escape the daily reality you face everyday. It's such a wonderful feeling to be able to get lost in a piece of literature that you love more than anything! And once you find a genre(s) you can really vibe with, all you want to do is read more and more. Oftentimes, you search for lines you wish you could have thought up on your own when you sit down and devour the pages of your favorite books. This is part of the appeal of reading; when you find something and think to yourself "man, I wish I had been the one to write that." Don't worry, bookworms. I feel you. So if you're a reader at heart, then here are some funny things you can surely relate to!
16. Book-smell is your favorite scent
Nothing smells better than opening the pages of a brand new book. That's right, get a good wiff.
15. You have special tote bags just for your books
Some people have bags to carry their pets around, some people have bags for their gym clothes, some people have bags under their eyes, but you have cute totes for your books. And it's totes okay.
14. You don't understand people who hate to read
When you come across people who claim they "hate reading," you have to use every ounce of your being not to lay out all the facts for them like the intelligent and well-informed human being you are. I mean, you got to be that way from books. So try not to be too harsh on the non-readers, okay? They won't be able to keep up with your level of intellect, anyways.
13. You'd rather spend your weekend reading
While all your friends go out and party, you're really quite okay with staying inside, chilling with a cup of hot chocolate, burring yourself under blankies, and reading the night away. Also, this is the time you use to stay up until 4:00am, reading endlessly while you whisper to yourself, "just one more chapter." You can't do that sort of thing during the week without feeling the repercussions the following morning!
12. When you think of traveling, you often think of all the iconic bookstores you'll get to visit
Not gonna lie, one of my main reasons for wanting to visit France (aside from the fact that my fellow bookworm best friend lives there) is because I really want to visit Shakespeare and Company. Also, how cool will it be to roam the same streets that Ernest Hemingway did?!
11. You buy the prettier versions of books you already have
When a newer edition with a gorgeous cover comes out, are you just gonna leave it there and be satisfied with the same exact copy you have sitting on the shelf at home that looks much duller in comparison? No. You gotta buy it. You can never have too many copies of Pride & Prejudice, am I right?
10. You sacrifice usable space in your bedroom/home for bookshelves
Multiple books means you need a nice little home for them. You cringe at the thought of having them in piles all over the place, so if you're a dedicated book nerd, then you make the space for shelves. It's okay to be a little shelf-ish every once in a while!
9. You're a pro at internet stalking your fave authors
You know just where they went for lunch last Tuesday with their old friend from high school who you're convinced is only friends with your fave author now because of their fame. Oh, and that's another thing; not only do you know their daily schedule, but you become mad protective of them because they wrote your world. And you cherish them.
8. You've made playlists for reading certain books
There will come a day when you're in the car listening to the radio with your friends and a song comes on and you'll blurt out "gosh, this takes me back!" Your friends will proceed to ask "brings you back to what?" And you'll reply "Reading Harry Potter, of course" and then everyone will look at you oddly because they thought you were gonna say something exponentially cooler.
7. You have a tendency to act as if you've read every classic book out there
There is a certain level of pride that comes with being a book addict, and in your head you feel as if you need to have read ALL the classics in order to say you're a real bookworm. Can't let everyone know you're low-key only really into YA books (and you'll feel judged for that, too).
6. Paycheck=Trip to the bookstore
"Where did all my money go?!" ...
Oh wait, I have books I haven't even taken out of the Barnes & Noble bag yet. Hehe, there's where my paycheck went.
5. Goodreads is a good friend
If you're a bookie, then you use Goodreads to organize everything you plan to read and everything you've ever read since you were five years old. Then you're incredibly proud and satisfied to see you've accumulated over 1,000 books...even though you know it's more about quality than quantity.
4. Reading for school doesn't really count
Even if you have amazing professors who assign you great reading material (which is more rare than usual), the reading you have to do just doesn't satisfy your bookish ways. To you, reading means for pleasure, and not for class. And oftentimes, the reading you need to get done for school stresses you out even more because there's a deadline for when it's due.
3. You often live your daily life as if it was straight out of a novel
Book-lovers love to imagine what their day would look like if it was documented in the pages of a book. It would probably make your life seem much more exciting! Also, you may make many daily decisions based on asking yourself: "Is this something my favorite character would do?"
2. You have so much to read right now, but you simply cannot stop yourself from buying more books
There are probably more than 40 books you have sitting at home right now that you have yet to read and you really want to, but you have this habit of buying even more books and adding to your steadily increasing reading list...and not enough time to read them.
1. You procrastinate on finishing a book because you don't want it to end
When you approach the end of a good book, you may begin to take your time reading because once it's done, that all-too-familiar feeling of sadness sets in as you sit there and stare at the closed cover, wondering how you will move on with your life now that it's finished. Come the end, you'll even reread the last paragraph a few times until it really sets in that it's officially over. You're perpetually stuck between wanting it know how it ends, but not wanting to actually get to the ending.
