15 Ways You Know You're From South Jersey

How are we even connected to North Jersey, seriously?!?!?!

There is 110% a difference between North Jersey and South Jersey (and Central Jersey if you believe it exists). Obviously, South Jersey is the best part of Jersey, whether it's because of the cheesesteaks, the PORK ROLL, and the Jersey Shores.

1. When you're heading down the shore, you ask your family/friends to stop at WAWA for a quick snack.

I never want to know what Sheetz or Quick Stop tastes like. I've heard, and sometimes things are better left unsaid or "un-tried".

2. Wildwood, Ocean City, Long Beach Island, Sea Isle...and many, MANY more are your homes away from home.

Whether you're staying for the weekend or consecutive weeks, or you're one of the lucky ones that have a house, you talk about THE SHORE like it's your second home. You count down the day from Labor Day till the next Memorial Day. (Wildwood is the best, by the way.)

3. Your city is Philadelphia.

Whether you're going for a cheesesteak, drinks with friends or for Harbor Park. You consider Philadelphia your city. It's about 15 minutes away--not even. It's a perfect getaway. And a perfect place to take pictures with your friends!

4. You literally have no idea how to pump your own gas and you don't care to.

It's so much easier to just have someone else do it! We're not going to get our hands dirty doing that. We'll stick to the gas people!

5. The malls are at least 20 minutes away from you.

It's really not a problem to stop at the mall really quick before you go out because they're literally around the corner. You probably spend your tween-age years at the mall with $10 in your pocket. (You probably spent it at the food court).

6. It's really hard to describe to someone where you live- it's strictly Cherry Hill or Philadelphia.

"Yeah, like right before the Besty Ross Bridge to go over Philly"....."Like Cherry Hill, you know where that is right". It's so stressful to tell people where you live without them just completely cutting you off and acting like they know where you live.

7. Pretty sure most of us have never fist-pumped in our life.

No, like seriously, the Jersey Shore Cast was literally the only people in the entire South Jersey to ever fist pump.

8. Speaking of Jersey Shore, I'm pretty sure the motto "GTL" was never relevant...

I mean, yeah we tan at the shore, and we go to the gym and we do our laundry...but like doesn't everyone? I never got that motto. But uh, comment below if you think differently.

9. No one gets why we call it "Water Ice".

Okay, but let's talk seriously right now. What the hell is Italian Ice? You'll find us on the boardwalk in line for some Polish Water Ice or at home in line on the first day of spring in line for some Rita's.

10. IT'S A HOAGIE NOT A SUB!!!

Jersey Mike's Subs and SUBWAY? GET OUT OF HERE! It's 110% a hoagie and we're tired of fighting about it! Buying a hoagie at WAWA during the Hoagiefest or at Primo's is like a taste of summer and breath of fresh air.

11. BB&T is probably where you'll find most of us this summer listening to our favorite artists.

The lawn at BB&T feels like home--and if you disagree you probably never been there. We're completely used to the artists calling us "Philadelphia" because we might as well be.

12. Let's get one thing straight, the show Jersey Shore is literally nothing like how is really is.

The show was really funny to watch but it gave our beloved Jersey Shore a bad rep. We're tired of people asking us if it's actually like the show there! We have fun but not JUST that kind of fun!

13. It's not WATER, it's WUDDER!

I don't know why I say it but, I do. Please get over the fact that I pronounce things right and you pronounce them wrong!

14. OK, but seriously how is North Jersey still the same state....

I mean we're completely different! It's so crazy going to school with people from North Jersey--we barely have anything in common!

15. Your hype up song is probably "Dreams and Nightmares" by Meek Mill.

If you're not from South Jersey you don't know how much people from South Jersey love this song. We all jump in a mosh pit of people. Some people probably come out with bloody noses. It's great, and we know every single lyric.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
