15 Ways To Relax During Finals
Her Campus

Finals week is one of the most stressful times for any college student. Time is limited, professors continuously pile work on you, tests are often the same day, and students just want to rip their hair out. Here are some ways to relax so you can survive during finals week!

1) Listen to Music

Music is one of the best ways to calm down, especially when you play music that matches your mood. Throw on your favorite jams, scream lyrics at the top of your lungs and just let loose, I guarantee you’ll feel twenty times better.

2) Netflix and Chill

It’s almost impossible to keep up with shows throughout finals so make a small window of time to watch an episode or two of your favorite shows. Escaping the world is one of the best ways to relax.

2) Take Small Study Breaks

Studying is extremely important if you want to do well but when you do nothing but study hard, you stress yourself out and you can’t focus as well. Try the 15 minute study break rule, talk with your roommate or browse the internet—do whatever it takes to focus on something else and clear your head.

4) Take a Walk

Sometimes all the body needs to relax is some fresh air so during break time, go for a walk around campus or town. Maybe try visiting some of you favorite spots and think about other things like, what you might do after this semester or what you and your friends are going to do.

5) Attend Campus Events

The world is a big, beautiful place. Pay attention to your campus calendar and see what events you might be interested in attending.

6) Participate In the Finals Destressing Activities

Colleges often offer de-stress activities in the dorm halls and on campus, try attending some. They can be great ways to prepare for or recover from a major study session.

7) Work in a Study Group

It’s no secret that college social life takes a huge blow during finals. Unfortunately some sacrifices have to be made and socializing can’t always be the top priority. That’s what study groups are for, it’s a great way to socialize and study, especially during those 15 minute breaks where you can talk about something totally random! Besides, if you study with friends it might not feel as dreary and boring.

8) Call Home

College sometimes makes it impossible to keep in touch with family. It’s easy to get buried under work and friends. During finals time calling home is even harder and the lack of family time can add to your stress. Take some of those 15 minute breaks to call home and see how things are, 15 minutes is better than nothing right?

9) Bake Comfort Food

You’re going to spend a lot of time shut away in your dorm room during finals, so bake some comfort food to help you through. Try making your favorite desserts and cooking easy meals, a bowl of homemade chili or a couple of cookies can do wonders for your mood.

10) Make Finals Reading Fun

Finals sometimes come with A LOT of boring reading material. In order to spice it up a little, try reading a couple blurbs of text in a funny voice or try some impressions of your favorite movie stars. Chances are you’ll start laughing at yourself and laughter is the best medicine.

11) Abuse the Snapchat Filter

For those super into snapchat and social media, take few minutes to take some selfies and try different snapchat filters and effects. Really make yourself laugh and maybe share some of them online. You can look forward to reading the comments later!

12) Watch Humorous Clips

Online video clips are one of the best things ever. Search for some of the top humorous clips you can find.

13) Do Some Non-School Related Reading

Each day you study for finals, take a small window of time to read something completely unrelated to your study material. Maybe read a chapter or two of your favorite book.

14) Memes

Scour the vast online world for memes, maybe share some of the ones you find. I guarantee it’ll result in fun in some way or another!

15) Block Days Out for No Studying

If you can, try and pick one day where you don’t do any studying. Sometimes the brain needs a work free day. College is one of the most educational points in your life but it’s also one of the most fun and unique times. Try and enjoy it when you can.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
