It's almost that time of year again, ladies: recruitment. This means lots of practice, practice, and more practice. Lucky for me, recruitment season is my favorite season of the year, but I know that I am a rare breed in the pool of sorority women. It's safe to say that recruitment practices are run pretty similarly across the country, which just means the same thoughts are going through all of our heads.
1. I am so excited to see everyone after such a long summer!
Coming back for a week of recruitment practice does have it's upsides - seeing all your sisters! If you're going to suffer through a week of songs and conversation topics, at least you're doing it with some of the women you love.
2. Okay, there's too many people here now..I am already sweating.
It may have been nice to see your friends for a second, but now the room is getting crowded and it's mid-August aka sweaty girl central. Personal space, guys...
3. OMG it's so loud.
Between the high-pitched squeals of being reunited and the recruitment chair trying to quiet everyone down, your first headache is already kicking in and it's only 9 AM.
4. BE QUIET SO WE CAN GET THIS SHOW ON THE ROAD.
"The longer you talk, the longer we'll be here" said every recruitment chair, but they do make a good point.
5. My throat hurts.
You've only run through the first day of songs and your vocal cords are already calling a time-out. This is gonna be a long week.
6. Ugh we've gone through this song 6 times already, can we please move on!?
We get it, the newest pledge class barely knows the songs and clearly didn't practice this summer, but does that mean the rest of us should suffer??? No. The answer is no.
7. BREAAAAK TIIIIIME!
There is nothing like your lunch break during recruitment practice. Savor that time and your food as much as possible because that's the only part of the day that actually goes by quickly.
8. Did we forget about the whole 'talking makes you stay later' thing?
Keep it down back there...we can all hear you no matter how quiet you think you are *eye roll*.
9. You aren't seriously asking us to practice keeping a conversation with each other...
Talking to your sisters is easy, so this part may not be taken as seriously as it should be considering you won't be feelin' too comfy when you're talking to a random girl in a hot, loud room full of what seems like a million other humans.
10. It's still sooooo hot.
Is the A/C even on? Who in the world opened the windows when it's already 90 degrees outside? Are you seriously touching me right now when we are both covered in sweat? Ew. Just ew.
11. I have officially decided that today is never ending.
From the looks of things, today doesn't seem like it's going to end soon, which just goes to show that this week will literally take about forever and a day to be over.
12. YAY WE ARE SINGING AGAIN!
As if these cheesy songs that don't leave your head weren't sung enough today, 12 more times should be just fine! (Psych).
13. Almost done. We can do this, girls.
One hour left, which should be a celebratory moment, except the clock decided to move even slower now. So back to that "this is going to take forever" thing...
14. Only a few more fake conversations to go.
Keep that smile on your face, honey, the only way to survive this week is to fake it 'til ya make it.
15. I'M FREEEEEE!!!
Finally! The day is finally over after what was probably about 68 hours. Can't wait to do it all over again tomorrow ;-)
Like I said, I love recruitment much more than the next person. So most of these thoughts are a little dramatized for me, but I know what it's like gals. All in all, these practices are only to better your chances of receiving a pledge class of amazing women who will continue making your chapter what you love, so it's all worth it in the end!!!
