The 71st Annual Tony Awards came and went, and they delivered. It was truly an exciting and inspiring night. As always, theater geeks all around the world watched the long awaited celebration of Broadway and its most talented individuals. Here are some reactions that just about all of us must have had throughout the evening:
1.Who knew Kevin Spacey could sing?
You probably didn't know what to expect of this new Tony Host, but his star-studded opening was yet another great start to the show.
2. Steven Colbert can pretty much sing...
I mean, he is clearly no Ben Platt, but he was entertaining of course.
3. Why is Broadway filled with so many talented people?
Broadway's diversity and talent were showcased through Come From Away's amazing performance.
4. How do they all manage to look so happy after losing?
It's amazing how each and every nominee seemed truly happy for whoever won. I mean, just look at Mike Faist.
5. What exactly is Whoopi Goldberg wearing?
Twitter had plenty to say about that. Was it dementor inspired? Vampire cape vibes? Whatever it was, it was different, but admittedly still pretty cool.6. Put Falsettos on Spotify already
While you're at it, get the cast together and film the show. Cast albums don't include Andrew Rannells in short shorts. Oh wait, they DID film it and it will hit theaters starting July 12!7. YES Dear Evan Hansen
Pretty much the Hamilton of 2017. I love Dear Evan Hansen, you love Dear Evan Hansen, and the performance was just what we all needed. The numerous Tonys that it received were no surprise.
8. That Hillary Clinton/Evan Hansen email joke, though...
You have to admit that it was pretty funny. While the Clinton jokes were good, Ben Platt's reactions were even better.9. I definitely understand why everyone loves Josh Groban
Groban and the cast of Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 killed it on stage. It was yet another example of the beauty of theater.
10. They are clearly attempting to satisfy the Hamilfans
Appearances by Brian d’Arcy James, Christopher Jackson, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Jonathan Groff kept a smile on the face of those whose definition of theater is Hamilton.
11. Hey, it's Jill Biden
Joe Biden, too! I wonder when Donald Trump will start supporting theater...
12. JONATHAN GROFF!
Sorry, I just love Jonathan Groff. He didn't talk much, but still, who doesn't love Groffsauce?
13. Uh-oh. Hello, Dolly! won.
Hello, Dolly! won Best Revival of a Musical, which I'm sure they deserved, but I can practically hear the obsessive Falsettos fans whining about it.
14. I'm not crying, you're crying
What is it about Ben Platt that makes everyone adore him? I'm not sure. Probably just about everything.
15. I. Love. Theater.
Watching the Tony Awards is always an awesome experience. Whether your favorite shows and individuals win or loose, it's impossible to turn off the TV without a smile on your face and a happy heart.
