15 Things To Look Forward To Back In Tallahassee

As Christmas break is coming to an end and your return to Tallahassee is creeping up on you, here are a few things to look forward to getting back to.

1. Your friends

Every one has their friends from back home that they still remain in touch with but nothing compares to the new friendships you have gained in college. These are the people who you go out with every Friday night, the ones you study with at Stroz and most importantly they are the ones who have given you a home away from home.

2. Happy Hour

Whether you are a Clydes or Potts person, you know you can wait to get back to going to happy hour every Friday with your friends. Or those $5 Taylor Mades.

3. Syllabus Week

The one week where it is perfectly accebtable to go out every night. Well as long as you make it to that first day of class.

4. Fraternity Rush

One of the only weeks in Tallahassee where you can guarantee every bar will be rented out and filled with frat boys.

5. Township

It may have only opened a few short weeks ago, but its humongous beers already hold a spot in your heart.

6. Freedom a.k.a. No Parents

Back in Tallahassee you have nobody to report to or curfew to be home by. You can do whatever you want, whenever you want.

7. Late Night Taco Bell Runs

Those nights when you get the munchies and head to Taco Bells to binge eat burrito supremes and nachos. Yeah, well your mom isn't in Tallahassee to judge and that makes it all the better.

8. Newks

Once you go Newks, you never go back (to Panera).

9. Standard

I am 99% sure that nobody has a bar at home that even comes close to Standards. Being packed in like sardines while a puddle of fallen drinks pools around your new shoes, nothing compares to the memories you have of Standard.

10. Starbucks On Every Corner

In Tallahassee you never have to drive more than five minutes to get to a Starbucks.

11. Personal Space

Sometimes we just want to lay in bed all day and binge watch Netflix. Without anybody giving us the side eye. And in Tallahassee we can do that.

12. Not Having To Wear Pants

Every once in a while we like to walk around the house with out pants on until 5pm but this is impossible to do back home when you have family surrounding you 24/7.

13. Madison Social Drinking Challenge

What makes a free t-shirt even better is the challenge of finishing 10 drinks before you get it.

14. 3 AM Chick-Fil-A.

Nothing compares to going to Chick-Fil-A at 2:59 a.m. and still being able to get that chicken biscuit you have been craving at the bar all night.

15. College Town Bubble

Being in Tallahassee means that you are constantly surrounded by college students with everything you need within walking distance; Chipotle, bars and Stroz.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
