God bless Texas.

Texas will always be my home, wherever I am. These are just some of the things that all Texans know to be true about our home state.

1. The weather is extremely temperamental.

Monday, it’s sunny and 75, Tuesday, there is a tornado warning and Wednesday, there is a chance of snow? Excuse me?

2. You can drive 10 hours and still not be out of state.

When you live in Texas, road trips are no little task. Many times the longest part of the trip is getting out of Texas!

3. Whataburger is better than anything else.

First, it’s pronounced “waterburger." Second, nothing compares. Third, what can be better than 24/7 service?

4. The state fair is really the greatest.

Big Tex, corny dogs, deep-fried everything, cars shows galore, live music, plus all of the usual fair works!

5. The sunsets are like no other.

There are no words to explain this one. Only what the eyes can see.

6. Texas-shaped everything.

No joke. EVERYTHING can be Texas-shaped. Mugs, waffle makers, pasta, coffee tables, earrings, or even grills! This is serious business, people.

7. Dr. Pepper is practically the state drink.

Originating in Waco, this popular soft drink is considered liquid gold in the great state.

8. Sports are kind of a big deal.

Friday night high school football games are a Texas tradition, college football games are as important as holidays and we take “Baseball is America’s pastime” seriously. Go Rangers!

9. Spring is the best because of the fields of bluebonnets.

Until you’ve experienced a field of bluebonnets, you haven’t lived life to the fullest. Also, are you even Texan if you haven’t taken pictures in them?

10. You can’t get proper Tex-Mex outside of Texas.

Trust me, I’ve tried many “Tex-Mex” restaurants outside of Texas and nothing comes close.

11. When you go to school out of state, fellow Texans question why you are leaving God’s country.

Yeah, so maybe other states aren’t as bad as we say they are, but none of them will ever truly feel like home.

12. When you make non-Texan friends, you often annoy them with your undying love and pride for your home state.

Sorry, not sorry. Love y’all.

13. Everything is bigger and better in Texas.

What they say is true. Everything is bigger and better in Texas.

14. We have the most state pride.

Obviously.

15. And why shouldn’t we? We are, after all, the greatest state.

“If a man’s from Texas, he’ll tell you. If he’s not, why embarrass him by asking?” -John Gunther

God bless Texas!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
