Working at a summer camp is a unique experience. Long days with 20 children to look after can be difficult, but when you get an amazing tan and meet incredible people is it really all that bad? Here are 14 things only camp counselors understand.
1. The dreaded staff training week.
2. Having a lunch break doesn't necessarily mean you get a break.
3. Because just when you're about to sit down, someone has to go to the bathroom.
4. You get more excited about activities than your campers do.
5. Although, the second you threaten to take away GaGa Ball everyone wants to participate.
6. You can't get in a canoe with your campers and expect to make it out dry.
7. If you let your campers paddle you can't expect to make it anywhere, but in circles.
8. Having to lead songs when you are a terrible singer...enough said.
9. And if you hear "Little Red Wagon" one more time you might just cry.
10. But, you can't get it out of your head after a long day at camp.
11. Oh, and don't forget about your awkward tan lines from your staff t-shirts.
12. Finding the best ways to get around theme day.
13. Or the struggle of getting your kids ready for the pool.
14. The long hot weeks would be unbearable without your fellow counselors.
15. Or the long awaited staff parties.
No matter how difficult of a group of children you get is, there are always campers that warm your heart, make you laugh, and make it all worth it. On the days that there's not, there are always fellow counselors that understand, and make coming back the next day that much more bearable.
