It's Friday night and you're stuck at home with loads of responsibilities that you don't want to do. What better way to get excited to write that essay or finish your homework than to have a one-person party? This list is in not final, so feel free to add your own party jams! Grab a beverage (alcoholic or not), and prepare to board the train from Homeworkville to PartyTown.
1. Sia-"Chandelier"
A classic "This was overplayed so I know every word" song that never loses its luster. Perfect for when you're doing your homework and have a chandelier at your disposal. Also, a good song to sing when you're drunk as a skunk while doing said homework.
2. Katy Perry-"Birthday"
OK, the lyrics are dumb, but the beat is funky and sexy and makes you feel like a BAMF when you're dressed in a sweats and look like a trashcan. Close your eyes and imagine you're singing it to your favorite hot person, like Matt Bomer or that hot TA in your Neuro class.
3. Lipps inc.-"Funky Town"
This list can't even be considered a party jam list without this song. A classic. Truly represents your journey from "By yourself" to "Still by yourself, but entertained."
4.Lady Gaga-"Summerboy"
With it's upbeat guitar riff and Gaga's saccharine voice, this song will take your mind off the fact you're back in school and drowning in homework. If you close your eyes, cover your ears, and use your imagination, it's summer all over again. (Fling optional since you're independent and you don't need no man/woman.)
5.Ben Folds-"Not the Same"
An unlikely choice, but it's a headbanger (kinda, thank you drums) and you know you'll sing along when the "Aaaaaah-Aaaaaah"'s come around. Also, this is just a damn good song. I would put it on every song list.
6.Passion Pit-"Take a Walk"
I could put, like, 10 Passion Pit songs on this list because they're the epitome of "get up and dance" songs, but I restricted myself to one. Brownie points for listening to the Childish Gambino/Passion Pit mashup "Take a Firefly."
7. Todd Terje-"Inspector Norse"
Let me introduce you to the beauty of this song. Your life will be changed. It's so synthy and wonderful, you can't help but dance. Imagine disco with lots of synth. That is this song. 10/10, would recommend.
8. Katy Perry-"International Smile"
Another track off of her "Prism" album and another song with dumb lyrics, this one will make you want to strut around the house in your sweatpants. It's also a confidence booster. You have that international smile that Katy's singing about.
9. The Bee Gees-"Stayin' Alive"
Describes what your current situation is at the moment. Also, play this song in your head if you ever need to give anyone CPR.
10. Marina and the Diamonds-"Shampain"
Another heavy synth fave, you'll find yourself doing some impressive arm gestures at the chorus (and you'll feel very celestial doing it).
11. Shaggy ft. Rik Rok-"It Wasn't Me"
First, we all know this was the best song of the early 2000's, and who else could make a song about cheating catchy. Also, you'll piss yourself laughing at Shaggy's voice (How does he even do that?).
12. Sisqo-"Thong Song"
Probably tied with "It Wasn't Me" for best song of the 2000's. Also, Sisqo was the first to start the granny hair trend. Who else could pull that off and sing a song about underwear? No one. What a trailblazer.
13. Miley Cyrus-"Can't Be Tamed"
Oh, 2010 era angsty "I'm not a Disney star anymore, bitch" Miley. Good times. Anyway, this song is great to listen to when you want to reminisce about middle school, which no one does unless they're desperate.
14. Rebecca Black-"Friday"
Please don't hate me for putting this here. We all remember when we first heard this song and our lives were changed for the better/worst. Personally, I wouldn't know the order of the days of the week without this song, and it captures the excitement of waking up and realizing it's Friday. Give it a chance.
15. ABBA-"Dancing Queen"
I know you know the words to this song on the down low. Don't be ashamed. It's a wonderful song. If you ever forget who you are, or forget your age, just listen to this song and remember you are the dancing queen, young and sweet, only 17.
Now that you have a perfect one-person party song list, put your sweatpants, take your makeup off, and dance like no one's watching.
