Let's take it back to middle school, with a variety of songs that we jammed to on our brand new iPod nanos and iHomes- the ones we sung so loudly at school dances. Here are 15 songs that will take you back to the days of straightened side bangs, colored skinny jeans and pink Razr's.
1. I Kissed a Girl- Katy Perry
Ah, yes. Back to the days where you were paranoid if your mom bought you cherry chap stick, and where you sang this song loud and proud (even though you never kissed anyone, boy or girl.)
2. Sexy Can I- Ray J
"It's a Kodak moment, let me go and get my camera"- where you perfectly learned to act out taking a photo with just your hands.
3. When I Grow Up- The Pussycat Dolls
You weren't really sure whether or not they said "groupies" or "boobies," but it didn't really matter, because all you wanted was to grow up.
4. 7 Things- Miley Cyrus
Let's be honest, you were just as sad about Miley and Nick Jonas breaking up as she was, and this song was the ultimate break up song- until you heard the end, and realized you were definitely not over the breakup. But hey, she's just being Miley.
5. Crank That- Soulja Boy
Your squad was the squad when all 7 of you could take the floor at the school dance and perform this flawlessly.
6. Poker Face-Lady Gaga
Because before she was doing stellar super bowl performances, Lady Gaga taught us to repeatedly poke our friends in the face as we jammed to her "new age techno". (Side note: I was Lady Gaga for Halloween in 2010, and proudly displayed two of her posters in my bedroom.)
7. I Love College- Asher Roth
Because six grade was really comparable to college, right? (Time isn't wasted when you're getting wasted on Monster Energy Drinks.)
8. New York State of Mind- Jay Z & Alicia Keys
It didn't matter that we were all from small towns, because we all had big NYC dreams.
10. Forever- Drake, Lil Wayne & Eminem
You can bet that we knew every single word (even if we don't know what it meant) because in 2009 we went from pop music to rap music. (This was my Myspace song for like 3 months)
11. Tik Tok-Ke$ha
Because you probably had some sort of dance that acted out each and every part of this.
12. Not Afraid- Eminem
Every ounce of pre-teen anger that you had built up was able to be relieved as you screamed this song in the car, while your mom rolled her eyes.
13. You Belong With Me- Taylor Swift
As a geeky girl, this was your anthem. One day, the popular boy would love your tshirts and the fact that you sit in the bleachers.
14. Bottoms Up- Trey Songz & Nicki Minaj
If you didn't have apple bottom jeans and boots with the fur before this song, you can be you did after.
15. Fireflies-Owl City
The first "techno" song that we ever really liked- Owl City became one of our biggest obsessions.
I'm pretty sure I just created a playlist for a 6th grade dance, but hey- it was nice to revisit the middle school days for a little while!
